Job description

Climate Data Specialist

What if your years of environmental science training could directly shape how AI understands our planet's most pressing challenges? We're looking for Climate Data Specialists with advanced expertise in climate modeling, ecology, or sustainability to help build and train cutting-edge AI models — making them smarter, more accurate, and genuinely useful for real-world environmental science.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role designed for Masters and PhD-level scientists who want to put their deep domain knowledge to work in a high-impact, forward-looking field. No prior AI experience needed — just rigorous scientific expertise and a commitment to quality.

Organization: Alignerr

Type: Hourly Contract

Location: Remote

Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Develop, solve, and review advanced environmental science problems with real-world relevance and scientific rigor
  • Apply your expertise in climate modeling, ecology, sustainability, or related areas to design complex, nuanced problem statements that challenge AI reasoning
  • Evaluate AI-generated outputs for scientific accuracy, depth, and clarity — flagging errors and suggesting improvements grounded in domain expertise
  • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and fellow domain experts to enhance model performance across environmental science topics
  • Ensure all deliverables meet high standards of scientific integrity, precision, and clarity

Who You Are

  • Hold a Master's or PhD in Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science, Ecology, Earth Systems, or a closely related field
  • Deep expertise in one or more of the following: climate modeling, ecology, sustainability science, environmental data analysis, or related disciplines
  • Proficient in Python or R for research, data analysis, or scientific computing
  • Exceptional written communicator — you can explain complex concepts clearly and precisely
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently in an asynchronous environment
  • Fluent in English

Nice to Have

  • Experience with data annotation, data quality evaluation, or AI training workflows
  • Background in scientific writing, peer review, or academic publishing
  • Familiarity with environmental datasets, modeling frameworks, or simulation tools
  • Experience communicating science to interdisciplinary audiences

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading AI research labs
  • Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you, at 10–40 hours per week
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, impactful work
  • Apply your scientific expertise to one of the most consequential technology frontiers of our time
  • Contribute to AI systems that will reason about climate, ecology, and sustainability at a global scale
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
