Job description

 

Expectations of the Role:

  • Consistently demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic. Pay close attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Lead by example through active participation in production tasks and by providing clear guidance to team members.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with team members and the Production Supervisor. Be able to give and receive instructions effectively.
  • Proactively identify and report issues related to production, quality, or safety.
  • Uphold high standards for product quality, food safety, and workplace safety.
  • Work cooperatively with team members and support the overall goals of the production department.
  • Adjust to changing production needs and priorities as directed.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • MUST be bi-lingual in English and Spanish
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience working in a food processing environment, preferably in fish or seafood processing.
  • Basic level and understanding of MS Office – Excel, Word, Email.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform various processing tasks efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Good understanding of processing operations and equipment.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and basic food safety principles (HACCP awareness is an asset).
  • Proven ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Some experience in guiding or training colleagues is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of basic workplace safety procedures
  • Physical capability to perform manual labor, stand for extended periods, lift moderately heavy items (e.g., up to 60 lbs), and work in varying temperature conditions (wet, cold).
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including potential for overtime as required by production needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a lead hand or similar informal leadership role.
  • Basic understanding of production line efficiency and waste reduction.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a seafood processing plant environment which is refrigerated
  • Exposure to loud noises, strong odors, and slippery surfaces.
  • Regular exposure to water, cleaning chemicals, and seafood processing by-products.
  • The role requires standing for long periods and involves manual tasks.
  • Use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
