Sds Associate information

What is an SDS associate?

SDS Associates, often known as Safety Data Sheet Associates, are professionals responsible for managing and creating Safety Data Sheets (SDS) that provide information about the properties, hazards, and safe handling of chemicals. They ensure that these documents comply with regulatory standards and are accurate, up-to-date, and accessible to employees. SDS Associates typically work in industries such as manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals, where compliance with safety regulations is essential. Their work helps organizations maintain workplace safety and avoid regulatory penalties.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an SDS associate?

To thrive as an SDS Associate, you need strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and a bachelor's degree, often in a relevant field such as business, logistics, or data management. Familiarity with data management software, Excel, and proprietary tracking systems is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills help SDS Associates stand out in dynamic environments. These skills are important to ensure accurate data processing, efficient support for supply chain operations, and effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.

What challenges does an SDS associate face when handling large volumes of data for labeling or annotation tasks?

SDS Associates often encounter the challenge of maintaining high accuracy and consistency when processing large datasets for labeling or annotation. Balancing speed with attention to detail is crucial, as errors can impact downstream machine learning models. Additionally, the repetitive nature of the work requires strong focus and effective time management. Collaborating with team leads and quality analysts helps ensure adherence to guidelines and provides opportunities for feedback and skill improvement.

What is the difference between Sds Associate vs Safety Coordinator?

Common Search & ComparisonYesYes

The Sds Associate primarily handles Safety Data Sheets, ensuring compliance and proper documentation in environments dealing with chemicals. The Safety Coordinator has a broader role, overseeing overall safety protocols, conducting training, and managing safety programs. While both roles require OSHA knowledge and safety certifications, the Sds Associate focuses more on chemical documentation, whereas the Safety Coordinator manages comprehensive safety initiatives across various industries.

Job description

Job Title: Associate Scientist/ Sr. Associate Scientist Antibody and Protein Engineering

Reports To: Scientist II, Antibody Engineering

Position:

Mediar Therapeutics is a clinical stage biotechnology company developing therapeutics to halt, or even reverse, fibrosis and restore long-term organ function. The platform and pipeline are based on an emerging class of novel targets- fibrotic mediators - that play key roles in modulating myofibroblast biology and the development of fibrosis chronically damaged organs. Mediar was founded by Mass General Brigham Ventures, Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham & Women's Hospital and has laboratory and office space in Boston.

We are seeking an Associate Scientist/ Senior Associate Scientist to join our protein engineering team. This position offers the opportunity to impact multiple steps of the discovery and engineering process for biotherapeutic lead generation including the expression, purification, and characterization of immunogens, panning reagents and the therapeutic candidates themselves. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated scientist with demonstrated communication and organizational skills who can work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute laboratory experiments supporting antibody and protein engineering programs, with appropriate guidance from project leads.
  • Execute expression and purification of monoclonal and bispecific antibodies, including optimization and troubleshooting of protein production and purification workflows.
  • Perform biochemical and biophysical characterization of antibody and protein molecules using techniques including:
    • Bio-Layer Interferometry (BLI)
    • ELISA
    • HPLC/FPLC
    • SDS-PAGE
  • Evaluate antibody/protein quality, purity, and stability to identify potential technical or developability concerns.
  • Analyze and independently interpret experimental data, drawing scientifically sound conclusions, and recommendations of appropriate next steps.
  • Maintain mammalian cell culture (HEK293 and CHO platforms)
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of experimental procedures, results, and conclusions in an electronic laboratory notebook.
  • Troubleshoot experimental challenges and independently identify and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Present experimental results and scientific conclusions clearly during project team meetings and to the broader scientific organization.
  • Collaborate closely with scientists across antibody engineering, translational research, and other cross-functional teams to advance project objectives.
  • Contribute to development and continuous improvement of laboratory methods, assays, and workflows.
  • Maintain a high standard of laboratory organization, data integrity, and compliance with applicable laboratory procedures.
  • Onsite - 5 days/ week

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Protein Sciences, or a related discipline, with relevant industry experience.
  • Associate Scientist Level - mimimum of 2 years of industry R&D experience (and B.S)
  • Senior Associate Scientist Level - minimum of 5 years of industry R&D experience (with B.S) or 3 years of industry R&D experience (with M.S)
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture, recombinant protein expression, and protein purification.
  • Experience with bispecific antibodies or engineered antibody formats is highly desirable.
  • Hands-on experience with biochemical and biophysical characterization techniques, particularly BLI, ELISA, HPLC/FPLC, and SDS-PAGE.
  • Strong ability to independently execute experiments, troubleshoot technical issues, and manage multiple experimental activities with appropriate prioritization.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret experimental data rather than simply execute established protocols.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality experimental documentation and data integrity.
  • Excellent scientific communication skills, including the ability to present experimental results and conclusions to both project teams and broader scientific audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced, and highly cross-functional research environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience with biochemical and biophysical characterization techniques, particularly BLI, ELISA, HPLC/FPLC, and SDS-PAGE.
  • Experience in high throughput screening assays using FACS is a plus.
  • Experience in protein purification using AKTA-FPLC instruments.
  • Proficiency in mammalian cell culture includes media prep, cell line maintenance, cryopreservation, and transfections.

Our Culture & Values

At Mediar, we foster a collaborative, mission-driven environment where every team member contributes to advancing transformative therapies for patients with fibrotic diseases. Our core values are Curiosity, Community, and Integrity. These values guide everything we do, from scientific innovation to how we work together as a team.
