What Are Script Reading Jobs?

A script reader's primary responsibilities are to read a screenplay for a movie or TV show, evaluate the content, and provide feedback on what works and what does not work. You examine all features in the script, including story, concept, dialogue, pacing, characters, structure, and marketability. Script reading is used for pilots to decide if an idea should move forward, to choose a rating, or to see if a particular writer is a good fit for a company. Your duties include reading, analyzing, and writing coverage or a summary. Your employer or supervisor uses this to decide whether to move the script forward or not. You can find script reading jobs through a studio, production company, or talent agency.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Script Reader, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Script Reader, you need strong analytical reading skills, a deep understanding of story structure, and familiarity with the film and television industry, often supported by a degree in film, writing, or a related field. Proficiency in script coverage formatting, screenplay software (like Final Draft), and knowledge of industry-standard evaluation criteria are typically required. Excellent written communication, attention to detail, and the ability to give constructive feedback are standout soft skills in this role. These skills ensure that script readers can effectively assess material, provide valuable insights, and support development teams in selecting promising projects.

What are some common challenges faced by script readers and how can they overcome them?

Script readers often face the challenge of reviewing a large volume of scripts under tight deadlines while maintaining objectivity and attention to detail. Balancing the need to quickly assess a script’s potential with the responsibility of providing thorough, insightful coverage can be demanding. To overcome these challenges, script readers develop efficient reading strategies, use structured coverage templates, and continuously refine their analytical skills. Collaborating with other readers and participating in feedback sessions can also help ensure consistent evaluations and professional growth.

Job description

About our Company

At Hyperscience, we believe that behind every document is a meaningful human experience, whether that’s a family applying for their mortgage, a patient waiting for insurance coverage, or a student waiting for their visa to study abroad. However, for far too long, organizations have relied on outdated technology and manual processes to handle these processes, driving up costs, slowing down decisions, and frustrating customers.

As a distinguished leader in its market category, including a Leader in the 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Intelligent Document Processing Solutions and several other leading industry analyst reports, our technology flips the script with an AI platform that reads, understands, and processes documents at massive scale—automatically.

The Hyperscience Hypercell platform unlocks the value of an organization’s back office data through the automation of end-to-end processes, and transforms complex documents into LLM and RAG-ready data to power new enterprise GenAI experiences. This enables organizations to transform manual, siloed processes into a strategic advantage, resulting in a faster path to decisions, actions, and revenue; positive and engaging customer, public, and patient experiences; and dramatic increases in productivity.

Leading organizations including American Express, Charles Schwab, HM Revenue and Customs, Mars, Stryker, The United States Social Security Administration, The United States Department of Veterans Affairs, and several others use the Hypercell platform to achieve a faster path to decisions, dramatic increases in productivity, and unparalleled business impact.

Hyperscience is funded by top tier investors including Bessemer Venture Partners, Battery, FirstMark, Stripes, and Tiger Global.

About the Role:

This role embeds a deep engineering mindset directly into the sales process. You will own the technical engagement end-to-end — ensuring Hyperscience's Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) solutions are not only sold, but designed, prototyped, and successfully deployed with measurable outcomes, supporting Commercial customers pre- and post-sale.
This is a remote-first role with travel required for customer site visits and team meetings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Solution Alignment, Deployment & Continuous Outcome Management: Lead the technical lifecycle from discovery through initial production deployment, ensuring solution designs transition into successful implementations with clear, measurable technical outcomes.

  • Hands-on Customization & Code: Write, prototype, and refine solution logic (e.g., custom Python code, API integrations, workflow configurations) during the Proof of Concept (POC) and initial deployment phases.

  • Technical Strategy & Deal Acceleration: Act as the technical owner in sales cycles, architecting the end-to-end solution and handling technical objections, while identifying and grooming internal change agents into champions who advocate for Hyperscience across their organization.

  • Post-Sale Technical Partnership: Collaborate with other Tech & Sales partners to drive the initial forward-deployed engagement, fine-tune models on customer data, and document the final solution for seamless handoff and optimization.

  • Risk & Scoping Management: Define and document the precise technical scope, compute resourcing, TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), and integration strategy to mitigate deployment risk for enterprise customers.

  • Product Feedback Loop: Actively gather and synthesize critical product feedback and emerging field intelligence, serving as the voice of the customer to internal Product and Core Engineering teams.

Required Qualifications:
  • Hands-on Engineering & Code Proficiency: 2-6 years of experience in a customer-facing engineering role, with proven proficiency in Python and developing/debugging code for enterprise applications.

  • Cloud Architecture & Deployments: Strong comprehension of modern cloud architecture (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerized deployment patterns (Docker/Kubernetes).

  • Technical Education & Acumen: BSc in a technical field (Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science) or equivalent hands-on engineering background.

  • Consultative & Technical Communication: Proven ability to translate complex technology concepts (IDP, AI) into clear business value for executive, technical, and non-technical stakeholders.

Bonus Qualifications:
  • Exposure to IDP, RPA, OCR, or ML-based document processing/automation.

  • Experience with Enterprise automation platforms (e.g., Microsoft Power Automate, Appian, Zapier, IFTTT, etc)

  • Enterprise integration scoping: APIs, web services, database connectivity.

  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).

Company Values & Perks:

Hyperscience is a people-first company, committed to empowering our team to make a tangible impact. Our core values, including "Innovation that Transforms," "Lead with Trust," and a "Win Together" ethos, guide our collaborative culture. As a global organization, our benefits vary by region, but we are united by a fundamental belief in work-life flexibility. We support our team with flexible PTO and work-from-home options, recognizing the importance of a healthy balance between professional and personal life.

Benefits:
  • Health & Wellness: Company-covered Healthcare Coverage plans for you and your family, including HSA, PPO, Vision, Dental and Mental Health Wellness plans.

  • Retirement & Financial: 401(k) through Empower with company match up to 6% of your annual salary.

  • Paid Time Off (PTO): Flexible-use PTO, unaccrued and uncapped, subject to manager approval.

  • Parental Leave: 12 weeks of paid parental leave, with an additional 4 weeks paid for birthing parents.

  • Equity: Opportunity to own Stock Options in the company.
