What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Script Reader, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Script Reader, you need a strong background in storytelling, critical analysis, and often a degree in film, literature, or a related field. Familiarity with industry-standard script formatting software (like Final Draft) and coverage templates is commonly required. Exceptional written communication, attention to detail, and a keen sense for narrative structure and character development are standout soft skills. These abilities are essential for providing insightful script coverage and helping producers identify promising projects.

What are some common challenges faced by script readers, and how can they be managed?

Script readers often face the challenge of managing a high volume of scripts while maintaining objectivity and providing detailed, constructive feedback. Staying organized and developing a clear evaluation checklist can help ensure consistency and efficiency. Additionally, balancing time between reading, analyzing, and writing coverage is crucial, as deadlines are often tight. Networking within the industry and regularly discussing scripts with colleagues can provide valuable perspective and prevent burnout.

What Does a Script Reader Do?

As a script reader, your primary duties are to read, review, and provide coverage analysis and detailed notes of scripts. Typically, when a writer sends an agent or a studio a new screenplay, it is first screened by a script reader. Your responsibilities are to assess whether the script may be a viable film option for the agent or producer. You may choose to reject the screenplay or send the script to the agent or producer. If you work at an agency, the ultimate goal is either for the agent to sign the screenwriter and sell the script, or for the agent to attach their own talent to the screenplay and persuade a producer or studio to make the film. At a studio, the producer advocates for the script rather than the agent.

What are Script Readers?

Script Readers are professionals who review screenplays, teleplays, or other written scripts to evaluate their potential for production. They provide coverage, which is a detailed report that includes a summary, analysis, and recommendation about the script's strengths and weaknesses. Script Readers play a crucial role in helping studios, production companies, and agencies decide which projects to pursue. Their feedback can influence whether a script moves forward in the development process or is passed over.

What is the difference between Script Reader vs Script Supervisor?

Our brand purpose is to Elevate the Lives of the People we Touch. Join the Massage Heights team to help us inspire, educate, and promote a balanced lifestyle for every member and guest.
Do You Love Closing Deals AND Changing Lives?
Massage Heights Decatur isn't your typical spa front desk. We're building a high-performance membership sales team, and we need a natural closer who knows how to build genuine rapport, ask the right questions, and guide guests toward a decision that actually improves their life - consistent, affordable wellness care.
If you've ever felt capped in a retail or call-center sales job, or you're a sales-driven person tired of pushing products you don't believe in, this could be your next move. Here, you're selling something people leave the building thanking you for.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Owning the guest journey from check-in to close - greeting every guest with warmth and building rapport within the first 60 seconds
  • Running our proven sales process - intake questions, value bridge technique, and objection handling scripts designed to convert first-timers into members
  • Presenting membership options confidently and clearly, tailoring the offer to what each guest actually needs (not a one-size-fits-all pitch)
  • Handling objections with empathy and skill - "let me think about it" becomes "sign me up"
  • Hitting and tracking conversion targets - you'll know your numbers daily, weekly, and monthly
  • Following up with prospective members who didn't convert on their first visit
  • Collaborating with therapists and management to ensure every guest has a five-star experience that makes the sale easy

What We're Looking For
  • 1+ years of sales experience - retail, membership-based business (gym, spa, salon), or similar high-conversion environment strongly preferred
  • A track record of hitting sales or conversion targets - be ready to talk numbers in your interview
  • Natural rapport-builder - you can read people, adjust your approach, and make strangers feel comfortable fast
  • Process-driven mindset - you follow a proven script and system rather than winging it, but know how to make it feel authentic
  • Resilient and coachable - you take feedback, adjust, and keep improving your close rate
  • Excellent communicator - in person and on the phone
  • Reliable and organized - able to manage a front desk, schedule, and sales pipeline simultaneously

Why Join Us
  • Uncapped commission - the better you sell, the more you earn
  • A proven sales system - you're not figuring this out alone; we provide scripts, training, and ongoing coaching built on frameworks from top sales educators
  • Growth path - high performers move into leadership as we expand
  • A product people actually want - no cold calls, no convincing people they need something fake. You're offering real relief and real results.
  • Team culture that celebrates wins - we track numbers, celebrate closes, and push each other to get better

Compensation: $14.00 - $21.00 per hour
