Stellar Solutions is seeking a Test Engineer (Journeyman) to support software evaluation and test activities for national defense missions. This role will help ensure Air Force, Navy, and Space Force users receive software that is reliable, intuitive, and ready to support operational needs. The Test Engineer will work closely with developers and engineers to plan, execute, automate, and document testing across a mission-focused software development environment.


This role is responsible for supporting rigorous developmental testing of software solutions used by national defense customers. The Test Engineer will translate user stories and requirements into actionable test plans, execute manual and automated test cases, and communicate results clearly to development teams. The ideal candidate brings a proactive mindset, strong attention to detail, and the ability to identify opportunities for improvement across testing processes and software quality.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop test plans, test cases, and test procedures based on user stories, requirements, and mission needs.
  • Execute manual and automated test processes to evaluate software functionality, reliability, and user experience.
  • Generate test data and implement test cases to observe software performance against defined success criteria.
  • Document test results, defects, and observations in a clear, actionable manner for development and engineering teams.
  • Communicate defects and testing outcomes to developers to support timely software improvement and issue resolution.
  • Perform requirements analysis, synthesis, and traceability for shall statement and supplemental field evaluation.
  • Support developmental and operational test events through detailed planning, procedure development, and execution.
  • Build automated test scripts and custom test harnesses using tools such as Python or Cypress.
  • Apply software scripting skills to improve testing efficiency and repeatability.
  • Contribute proactive ideas for improving team processes, software quality, and mission delivery outcomes.
  • Collaborate with developers, engineers, and program stakeholders in support of software solutions for service members.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in developmental testing.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Strong requirements synthesis, development, and requirements traceability skills.
  • Core competency with software scripting.
  • Experience performing requirements analysis, synthesis, and traceability for shall statement and supplemental fields evaluation, including test method and success criteria.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Experience architecting complex systems in Model-Based Systems Engineering, including CAMEO or Rhapsody.
  • Knowledge of DoD Instructions 5000.87 and 5000.89.
  • Ability to develop and execute detailed test procedures for Developmental and Operational Test Events.
  • Ability to build automated test scripts and custom harnesses using a tool such as Python or Cypress.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with the Atlassian Suite, including Confluence or Jira.
  • Experience with radar system operations or radar modeling.
  • Experience with Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Experience interfacing with formal government test organizations, including 17TES or JITC.
  • Knowledge of software deployment and troubleshooting processes in DevSecOps pipelines, including Platform 1 or DAFCw.
  • Ability to run and evaluate complex simulation frameworks.
  • Security+ Certification.
  • Docker or Kubernetes Certification.

Clearance & Additional Requirements

  • Secret clearance.
  • TS/SCI clearance desired.

This position is full-time, on site in Colorado Springs (Peterson SFB)


Compensation

The typical salary range for this position is USD $120,000 - $141,000 per year. Individual pay is determined by many factors including work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual performance bonus, retirement plan, and other benefits, all in addition to salary.


Deliverables will be in the format of reports, briefings, spreadsheets, or other documents as directed by the Government, using government approved and/or mandated systems/software and processes governed by guidance/instructions/policy or direction.
