Job description

Position Summary 

The Medical Scribe assists the physician or Nurse Practitioner by documenting patient encounters in real time within the electronic medical record (EMR). The scribe ensures accurate and detailed documentation of medical visits, allowing the provider to focus on patient care while improving clinic efficiency and workflow. 

Key Responsibilities 

● Accompany the physician or Nurse Practitioner into patient exam rooms to document patient encounters in the EMR. 

● Accurately record patient history, physical exams, procedures, and physician assessments. 

● Document provider orders including laboratory tests, imaging, referrals, and medications as directed by the physician. 

● Prepare and organize patient charts prior to appointments. 

● Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with clinic and regulatory standards. 

● Assist providers with reviewing charts to ensure all documentation is finalized and signed. 

● Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines. 

● Assist with tracking diagnostic results and ensuring they are available for provider review. 

● Communicate with medical assistants and clinical staff to ensure smooth patient flow. ● Perform other clerical or documentation duties as assigned. 

Qualifications 

● High school diploma or equivalent required; healthcare-related education preferred. ● Prior experience as a medical scribe, medical assistant, or healthcare documentation specialist preferred, but will train the right person. 

● Knowledge of medical terminology is strongly preferred. 

● Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems preferred. ● Strong typing and computer skills. 

● Excellent listening, documentation, and organizational skills.

● Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment.
