Job description

About the Role We are a new upscale casual, contemporary American restaurant in Durham, and we are building a dedicated, professional Back of House team. Our menu celebrates seasonal ingredients, thoughtful preparation, and elevated plating. We are value-focused, aiming to provide an exceptional experience that keeps patrons coming back—and we are pushing for our team to be recognized with a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

We believe great food starts with a great team. If you are tired of the corporate fast-casual grind and want to work in an intimate, scratch-made kitchen built on respect, accountability, and pride in execution, we want you on our opening team.

What You Will Do

  • Execution: Prepare seasonal ingredients and execute written recipes utilizing proper, high-level culinary techniques.
  • Plating: Ensure precise, beautiful plate presentation so every order meets our upscale dining standards.
  • Station Management: Set up, restock, and maintain a highly organized and sanitized workstation throughout service.
  • Quality Control: Constantly check the quality and freshness of ingredients, adhering strictly to all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines.

What We Are Looking For

  • Specific Experience: 3+ years of BOH experience is required. We are specifically looking for candidates with experience in upscale casual, fine dining, or intimate independent/mom-and-pop scratch kitchens. (Note: This is a high-level scratch kitchen; fast-casual or fast-food experience alone will not be a fit).
  • Composure: Ability to maintain a calm, approachable, and professional attitude in a fast-paced, precise kitchen environment.
  • Reliability: A strong work ethic, exceptional punctuality, and a detail-oriented mindset.
  • Physical Stamina: Must be at least 18 years old, able to stand for long periods, perform repetitive motions, and safely push/pull/bend/lift up to 25-50 lbs.
  • Flexibility: Open availability to meet the business needs of a new restaurant opening.

What We Offer

  • Competitive Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour.
  • Future Tips: Online order tips will go entirely to the kitchen team once our online ordering launches.
  • Ground-Floor Growth: The rare opportunity to grow with a new, highly ambitious restaurant from day one.
  • Great Environment: A clean, well-organized kitchen with high-quality ingredients and a supportive, respectful culture.
  • Perks: Shift meals provided.
