Job description

Job Title: EHS Technician
Department: TP)Environmental Health & Safety Team
Shift: 12 hour 2-2-3 schedule 6:15am-6:30pm
Direct Report: EHS Environment Unit Manager
Type: Full-time; Non-exempt
EHS Technician responsibilities are:
  • Conducting scrap weigh-in and documenting scrap types in accordance with established protocol
  • Print and maintain weight tickets for all scrap loads, in cooperation with scrap contractor
  • Monitor contents of spill kits and inventory of spill cleanup materials at least monthly; assist with spill cleanup, as needed
  • Obtain TDEC compliance readings in production areas
  • Support ongoing compliance with ISO 14001, including participation in audits
  • Operate forklift, skid steer loader, excavator and other equipment upon completion of successful hands-on training
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area and plant, monitor scrap containers to address contamination of segregated materials, clean up trash and debris across the site
  • Consolidate contents of liquid waste in totes and drums; ensure oily rags from production areas are disposed of properly, ensure segregation of process oils and waste oils, segregate empty totes from those containing product or waste liquids
  • Ability to obtain Hazmat Shipping by Ground (DOT) and RCRA Hazardous Waste Management certifications within first year of employment
  • Perform all work safely and according to company standards
  • Develop and maintain proper working relationships within the team and throughout the organization
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of the position. Work schedules will overlap with other EHS personnel to learn procedures and tasks. Weekends will involve completing scrap operations and working independently on other tasks. The work schedule will be 6:15am to 6:30pm, 2-2-3 schedule
  • Communicate compliance concerns and complete incident reports, as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
EHS Technician requirements are:
Education:
  • (Required) high school diploma or GED
  • (Preferred) associate degree or advanced degree in environmental safety or management

Experience:
  • (Preferred) previous relevant experience

Language:
  • (Required) good command of written and spoken English

Skills & Knowledge
  • Law and Government - Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process
  • Education and Training - Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects
  • Public Safety and Security - Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions
  • Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
  • Active Listening & Speaking - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times; talking to others to convey information effectively
  • Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Complex Problem Solving - Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Reading Comprehension and Technical Writing - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents; Ability to write clear and concise policies and procedures

Physical Demands Analysis:
  • While performing the duties of this job, employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; to reach with hands and arms; and to talk and hear
  • Must be capable of operating a forklift
  • Must be capable of climbing up and down a ladder/stairs several times per shift
  • Must be capable of standing for long periods of time. Mobility throughout the facility
  • Employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, walk, or crouch
  • Employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted on occasion
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus
