We are currently seeking a full-time Staff Environmental Engineer, Environmental Scientist, or Geologist 1, to join our Knoxville, Tennessee office. This is an excellent opportunity to join and grow EnSafe, getting involved in a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients across the globe.
As a Staff Environmental Engineer, Environmental Scientist, or Geologist 1, you will support experienced engineers and scientists on a wide range of environmental projects in an environment that fosters creativity and collaboration at all levels. EnSafe emphasizes empowering staff to practice our profession passionately and without limitations.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you will:
  • Perform field investigations involving soil, groundwater, surface water, and other media using approved environmental sampling methods.
  • Conduct basic construction observation, including field testing, documentation, and quality control activities.
  • Assist with operation, maintenance, and performance monitoring of remedial systems, as well as support pilot studies.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate field notes, logs, and data records throughout all stages of field and office work.
  • Apply academic engineering training to analyze data, perform calculations, and support technical evaluations.
  • Support data management tasks, including reduction, organization, and summarization of environmental datasets.
  • Contribute to feasibility studies, remedial design tasks, cost estimates, and environmental permitting efforts.
  • Assist with producing figures, drawings, and analyses using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GIS software.
  • Draft technical sections for reports, work plans, and project correspondence.
  • Demonstrate safe work practices in field and office environments.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related engineering/science field.
  • 3 - 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, organization, and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently with guidance from senior staff and contribute positively in team settings.
  • Eagerness to learn, strong work ethic, flexibility, and problem-solving mindset.
  • Familiarity with environmental sampling, analytical methods, and data interpretation for soil, water, or air.
  • Ability to meet physical job requirements, including:
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Traversing uneven or sloped terrain.
    • Working outdoors in various weather conditions.
    • Performing moderate physical activity for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel for field assignments, including occasional overnight stays (~25% of the time).

Preferred Skills:
  • Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology or related discipline.
  • Prior consulting experience.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or GIS tools.
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification.
  • Asbestos Certification.
  • Drone experience and/or license.
