Job description

Project Engineer

Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Full-time | Entry-Level to Early Career | Engineering, Procurement & Construction Management (EPCm)

Looking to grow your engineering career with a team that actually supports your development?

Welcome to J H Operating Company — a hands-on, fast-moving EPCm firm where you're more than just a cog in the machine. We support upstream and midstream oil & gas projects across the U.S., and we’re looking for a Project Engineer to join our Baton Rouge office.

This is a great opportunity for a recent graduate or an early-career engineer (3–5 years) to work side-by-side with industry veterans and learn by doing. Promotion potential? Absolutely — we expect it after just 6–12 months if you're the right fit.

What You’ll Do:

  • Assist in the design, procurement, and execution of complex infrastructure projects (e.g., production facilities, terminals, SWDs, pipelines).
  • Collaborate with Facility Engineers and Project Managers to carry projects from concept to commissioning.
  • Get involved in everything — from developing P&IDs to field commissioning and PSSR walkthroughs.
  • Contribute to safety reviews (HAZOPs, PSSRs), perform quality control inspections, assist with job book compilation, and support seamless client handoffs.
  • Review drawing packages (P&IDs, 3Ds, orthos, isometrics) and ensure accuracy.
  • Help size and procure equipment, manage purchase orders, and track costs.
  • Learn tools like ProMax, Autodesk, and internal systems (we’ll train you).
  • Research and develop tools or processes when the team hits a new challenge.
  • Travel occasionally to job sites, vendor locations, and client facilities (10–15%).

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related scientific field (3.5+ GPA preferred).
  • 0–5 years of experience in engineering, EPC, or oil & gas preferred.
  • Solid communication skills — you’ll talk with clients, team members, and vendors.
  • Eager to learn and comfortable asking questions (and answering a few too).
  • Willing to work hard, stay organized, and bring a little personality to the table.
  • Willing to travel as needed (10–15%) and able to pass a drug screen.

Bonus Points For:

  • Familiarity with ASME, ANSI, and API standards.
  • AutoCAD or drafting experience.
  • Experience with programming, AI, data analytics (Coding agents, Python, R, VBA, SQL, etc.).
  • A mindset that balances technical proficiency with practical outcomes.

Why J H?

Real growth opportunities.
‍♂️ Exposure to full project lifecycles.
Smart, supportive teammates – zero micromanagers, plenty of mentors.
Clear path to promotion.
