Job description

The Senior Image Analysis Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and deploying advanced image analysis solutions that support high-content microscopy screening and translational research initiatives. This role combines software engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and scientific computing expertise to transform large-scale imaging data into actionable biological insights. Working closely with scientists, researchers, and digital technology teams, the incumbent develops scalable analysis pipelines, advances computational imaging capabilities, and enables data-driven discovery across the organization's research programs.

About therole

  • Design, develop, and maintain AI/ML-powered image analysis software supporting high-content microscopy and imaging platforms

  • Develop and optimize deep learning and image analysis algorithms for image segmentation, feature extraction, classification, and phenotypic analysis

  • Build and support scalable, high-throughput computational pipelines capable of processing large imaging datasets

  • Establish and maintain software quality standards through validation, testing, documentation, version control, and reproducible development practices

  • Collaborate with scientists, researchers, and technology teams to understand research objectives and translate scientific requirements into technical solutions

  • Support imaging data management, metadata standards, and long-term data accessibility and integrity in alignment with FAIR data principles

  • Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and methodologies in image analysis, machine learning, and computational imaging to drive continuous innovation

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative technical environment that promotes knowledge sharing and best practices

Aboutyou

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4 years of scientific software development experience in an academic, research, or industry environment

  • 2 years of experience developing image analysis algorithms and computational workflows

  • Demonstrated expertise in Python software development

  • Experience designing, training, and deploying deep learning models using PyTorch

  • Experience working with large-scale datasets and scalable computational pipelines

  • Experience with version control and collaborative software development practices

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with scientists and technical stakeholders

  • M.S. degree in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computational Biology, or a related discipline

  • Experience with 3D imaging, organoid imaging, or microscopy-based image analysis

  • Familiarity with bioimage analysis platforms and tools such as OMERO, CellProfiler, Fiji/ImageJ, scikit-image, napari, or OME-Zarr

  • Experience deploying software solutions within HPC, cloud, or containerized environments

  • Participation in open-source scientific computing or bioimage communities

  • Exposure to generative AI applications in scientific imaging
