Job Description

Primary Duties:  

Laboratory and related work (80-90% of time) under daily to weekly supervision: 

Provide support functions for an immunology lab, including preparation of buffers, ordering and stocking laboratory supplies, and regular maintenance of research instruments and equipment 

Perform and closely monitor FACS acquisition runs lasting up to 4 hours at a time. 

Work closely with other scientists to run a variety of immune cell- and/or serum-based immunoassays with samples generated from Vaccine Research project. 

Studies (including studies with large sample numbers >100). 

Define study aims and experimental plans with supervisor and then execute the work following the agreed plans as part of a team effort. 

Identify and report any experimental problems, troubleshoot causative factors, and implement necessary corrections following discussion with team members and/or supervisor. 

With support of their supervisor, analyze and interpret experimental data. 

Regularly record experimental work upon completion in electronic notebook systems and archive instrument raw data in server databases. 


Communication: 

Communicate clearly with the Cellular Immunology Team to ensure tasks are performed as required 


Safety: 

Comply with all EH&S regulations and safe laboratory practices and act as a vigilant advocate for the safety of fellow colleagues. 

Identify and act to reduce hazards and risks in the laboratory through use of Risk Assessments and Job-based Hazard Assessments. 



Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

Associate degree or B.Sc. in life sciences, preferably including immunology Hands on experience in a relevant laboratory setting with familiarity in aseptic work technique in biological safety cabinets Critical skills needed: Experience in aseptic work technique in biological safety cabinets.
