Location: Aug Prep South Campus
Schedule: full-time during 10-month school year.

In This Role, You Will be an exceptional collaborator and team player, have a deep understanding of scientific thinking, methodology, and principles within the content area, and an ability to connect with and inspire students. We are particularly interested in educators passionate about working in a diverse education setting as a part of a high-performing, driven staff. Ideal candidates will also be well versed in strategies to promote metacognitive engagement and be willing to go the extra mile for students. Candidates should be organized, detail oriented, and show expertise in developing lesson plans.
Academics
  • Deliver rigorous, engaging instruction and ensure every learner meets or exceeds academic goals.
  • Grounded in a deep belief in the potential of every student, implement instructional strategies to provide individualized and small group instruction by adapting the 9-12 curriculum to meet the needs of each pupil.
  • Use academic data to modify both whole and small-group instruction in order to best meet the needs of their students.
  • Plan and Deliver Instruction: Develop and implement rigorous, standards-aligned lesson plans for various high school science courses aligned with state and national science standards.
  • Foster Scientific Thinking: Guide students in conducting careful observations, analyzing scientific data, and evaluating evidence across a variety of scientific disciplines and real-world contexts.
  • Facilitate Laboratory Work: Develop, set up, and supervise hands-on laboratory experiments and demonstrations, ensuring students learn proper scientific procedure and strict safety protocols.
  • Differentiate Learning: Adapt instruction, materials, and assignments to meet the varied learning needs, abilities, and interests of all students, including those with IEPs or ELL status.
  • Evaluate Work: Assess and evaluate student writing, reading comprehension, and oral presentations using clear rubrics and providing detailed, constructive feedback.
  • Maintain Records: Accurately record and report student attendance, grades, and progress in compliance with school and district policies.
  • Ensure Safety: Maintain a safe, orderly, and productive classroom and laboratory environment, ensuring all students are trained in and adhere to safety regulations for handling materials and equipment.
  • Manage Resources: Oversee the organization, inventory, and maintenance of laboratory equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Set Expectations: Establish and consistently enforce clear behavioral expectations for the classroom and lab to maintain an optimal learning environment.
  • Promote Application: Design learning activities that demonstrate the real-world application of science concepts and encourage creative thinking and problem-solving.
  • Prepare for Exams: Prepare students for standardized tests and college-level exams, such as the SAT, ACT, or Advanced Placement (AP) exams where applicable.
  • Utilize Technology: Integrate educational technology, software, and resources into the science curriculum to enhance learning experiences.

What We're Looking For
  • A belief in the ability of every child and a commitment to ensure excellence for each student.
  • A bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics) or in Science Education is required, along with any accreditation requirements. A master's degree is preferred, and a state teaching license is not required.
  • Active participation in a Christian church.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Team player committed to the St. Augustine Preparatory mission and model.
  • Experience: Proven experience in teaching or student teaching high school science classes; experience managing a high school science laboratory is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge/Skills:
  • Deep content knowledge in the assigned science specialization(s).
  • Proficiency in utilizing lab equipment and demonstrating chemical/physical procedures safely.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong background in science pedagogy with experience supporting students in developing scientific reasoning, data analysis skills, and a deep understanding of core scientific principles.
  • Lastly and most important, the candidate must demonstrate and possess the highest integrity, and be able to live the values, beliefs, and culture of St. Augustine Prep.
