Job description

Job Summary – Environmental Scientist (Jackson, TN)
- Collect and analyze chemical, bacteriological, and biological surface water samples in the field.
- Conduct sanitary surveys of public water systems to ensure compliance with federal and state drinking water regulations.
- Investigate illegal discharges, water quality concerns, and public complaints.
- Perform fieldwork in rural and construction site environments, often in varying weather conditions.
- Travel regularly across a 17-county area using a state-provided vehicle.
- Maintain accurate records, field documentation, and enter data into digital systems.
- Serve as a point of contact for water system operators, landowners, consultants, and local stakeholders.
- Collaborate with internal teams and regulatory agencies to support environmental protection initiatives.
- Interpret maps, create diagrams, and use technical documentation skills for reporting and analysis.
- Communicate effectively (verbal/written) with diverse stakeholders, ensuring strong customer service.
- Utilize strong organizational and time-management skills to manage multiple field assignments and reporting duties.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions, frequently traveling for field assignments.
