Job description

Simplot is a family-owned, privately held global food and agriculture company headquartered in Boise, Idaho. Summary

As a Data Scientist with Simplot, you will leverage your expertise in statistics, machine learning and AI to develop solutions that solve complex business and operational problems. You will contribute to diverse and challenging projects, derive and communicate meaningful insights to business partners, and develop and deploy automated solutions to create business value across a variety of domains.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with other highly skilled data scientists, mentor junior team members, play a creative role on project teams, participate in high priority cross-functional initiatives, and grow and develop your own skillset through your work. Your curiosity, expertise and integrity will be instrumental in representing our team in engagements with our partners and stakeholders across the company, and in advancing Simplot’s utilization and development of industry-leading innovations in advanced analytics and AI.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate as a member of a data science team. May provide technical leadership for small project teams depending on experience and project needs.
  • Apply technical knowledge to interpret business questions and requirements.
  • Independently resolve highly complex technical issues within a given technical area.
  • Partner with members of a given team or other IT teams as appropriate.
  • Identify potential design, implementation or solution support risks and proactively alert management and technical leads.
  • Proactively search for solutions to relevant business problems in anticipation of future need.
Typical Education
  • Masters or Doctorate (PhD) preferred
  • Candidates with strong statistical programming and academic/scientific research backgrounds are encouraged to apply
  • 5+ years industry related experience and/or training
  • Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of key analytical/machine learning/artificial intelligence techniques.
  • Speaks with authority to most layers of depth related to data science methods.
  • Experience in scripting and / or programming language, especially Python.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience designing and implementing analytics applications.
  • Exhibits a high level of initiative and integrity. Possess creative ability, consulting skills, leadership qualities, credibility and self-confidence.
  • Demonstrated experience and comfort with in-person collaboration as well as an understanding of how to work effectively in engagements with remote team members and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and solutions.
