Job description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTIONย 

This opening is for the Custodial / Maintenance position at the South Elementary Campus.
Under supervision, keeps assigned building area clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly; secures rooms and cleaning stations; does special cleaning. Will perform maintenance and painting duties. Will also assist with maintenance dutiesย at the other 4 campuses on occasion. Incumbent performs related duties as required.ย 
During school year, positions may be assigned to early morning, morning, afternoon, evening or night shifts.ย 
EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIESย 
Sweeps, mops, scrubs, shampoos (when needed), including surfaces of many types; vacuums and cleans rugs and carpets; dusts, waxes, removes spider webs, washes and polishes furniture and woodwork, fixtures, shelves, cupboards and counters; cleans walls and blackboards; cleans and sanitize restrooms, locker rooms and showers; fills soap and paper dispenser; washes windows; empties trash and waste cans; tosses boxes into recycle bins; and restocks supplies.ย 
Moves furniture and equipment and sets up rooms and auditoriums for special meetings and activities. May set up and open areas for special events. Insures all doors and windows in assigned area are locked, alarms set, and necessary security lights are on. May assemble furniture, as required and requested.
Performs minor maintenance such as replacing lights, painting small rooms or trim, removing and/or tagging broken furniture; reports vandalism and items needing repair. May perform outside maintenance, such as snow removal, mowing, weeding, irrigating, picking up litter, etc.ย 
Participates in intensive cleaning and restoration of buildings during summer vacations and other periods; washes, removes and stacks furniture; washes walls and woodwork; paints interior and exterior walls; strips floors using power equipment; and seals and waxes floors.ย 
May be called upon on off-hours for school emergencies, such as burglaries, vandalism, snow removal, equipment failures, fires, flooding, etc.ย 

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDSย 
Education/Experience: Preferred: Any combination equivalent to education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:ย 
Six (6) months of experience demonstrating reliability, responsibility and good work habits.ย 
Knowledge of: Reading, writing and basic arithmetic sufficient to perform job duties successfully; and cleaning materials, methods and equipment.ย 
Skill at: Understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions; learning supplies, equipment and prescribed methods of cleaning; performing strenuous physical work; working effectively under time limitations and without immediate supervision; climbing and working from ladders; making simple arithmetic calculations; and developing working relationships with those contacted in course or work.ย 
License/Certifications: Possession of, or he ability to obtain a valid State of Nevada driver license with a driving record acceptable to CAS,ย 
Special Considerations: Working under occasional adverse environmental conditions, such as heat, cold, dust and fumes.ย

Salary

Approximately $39,000 - $42,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year.

PLEASE NOTE: New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every 5 years thereafter.ย 
Holiday: Eligible employees receive ten (10) paid holidays each year. Personal: Eligible employees receive (3) days of paid personal leave each year. Sick Leave: Eligible employees receive five (5) days of paid sick leave each year. Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance: Eligible employees may select an insurance plan wherein CAS contributes 100% of insurance premiums. Eligible employee paid dependent medical insurance is available for an employee's dependents. Insurance Premiums - Summer Months: CAS contributes 100% of the district paid portion of eligible employee's insurance premiums for employees who are not scheduled to work in the summer.
No State Income Tax. No Social Security deductions for most positions working 20 hours per week or more. Retirement benefit offered is the State of Nevada retirement system, Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), which is one of the best in the country.ย
