Job description

Technical Writer (Contract Position)
The Georgia Department of Revenue currently has 4 technical writer openings in our growing and innovative MVD Business Support and Operations group. This is a 6-month assignment with temp-to-perm potential.
The Department of Revenue's Motor Vehicles Division (MVD) issues Georgia Certificates of Title, Commercial Vehicle permits and various registrations/license plates, as well as records liens and security interests on all vehicles registered in the State of Georgia. In addition, MVD partners with the State's 159 counties to facilitate applications for title and vehicle registrations.
The Technical Writer will be responsible for analyzing current processes and documenting revised processes related to the new DRIVES computer information system taking effect May 27, 2019.
Two Technical Writers will be assigned to reviewing & documenting internal processes at our South Meadow location (Welcome All Road, Atlanta); and two Technical Writers will be assigned to reviewing & documenting processes in county offices throughout the state.
Specific duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Analyze information to determine nature and extent of end user requirements and concerns
  • Document business processes for end users of new system based on legislation (South Meadow or county offices)
  • Assist in the development of standards and procedures used in transition to new system
  • Consult with vendors and/or technical staff to ensure functionality of automated system is consistent with adherence to laws, regulations, and best practice standards of end users
  • Complete all project requirements by hard deadline of June 30, 2019
Minimum Entry Qualifications: Associate's degree in a related field (Business, IT, CIS, Mass Communications, etc.) OR High school diploma AND one year of related experience (documenting business processes or workflows, or developing formal user guides or training manuals) Essential Qualifications:
  • Previous experience preparing professional documentation shared with key stakeholders (ex: reports, presentations, executive memos, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Effective & professional communication skills (written and oral)
  • Proven attention to detail and good organizational skills
  • Ability to translate complex technical language into plain English
  • Ability to process & understand complex information concisely and effectively
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to appropriately address internal & external customer issues while respecting business needs and also in relation to maintenance of systems
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel
Preferred Skills:
  • Technically savvy
  • Previous experience as a liaison between work groups
  • Previous experience using computer information systems to provide customer support
  • Previous public speaking experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Visio or similar software for developing org charts
  • Experience using SharePoint (or similar software) as a repository for project documentation
  • At least one year of experience documenting business processes or workflows, or developing formal user guides or training manuals
