  • Qualifications
  • Hold, at minimum, an Associate degree that is related to/led to the candidate's health care license, registration, or certification. and
  1. 5 years of relevant work experience, completed within the last 10 years; or
  2. 1 year of relevant work experience, completed within the last 10 years and a Bachelor's degree that is related to/led to the candidate's health care license; or
  3. A master's degree that is related to/led to the candidate's health care license.

Example Qualifying Experience: Athletic trainer, audiologist, chiropractor, clinical exercise physiologist*, clinical perfusionist, dental hygienist, dentist, diagnostic medical sonographer**, dietitian, EMT Paramedic***, medical laboratory technician, nuclear medicine technologist**, occupational therapist, occupational therapy assistant, optometrist, paramedic, pharmacist, physical therapist, physical therapist assistant, physician, physician's assistant, podiatrist, radiology technician, registered nurse, respiratory therapist, speech therapist, veterinarian.
  • Hold a State Board of Health issued license/certification (from TN or another state); or a license, registration, or certification verified by a national license accreditation agency
  • Pass a Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
  • Attend a one week New CTE teacher training if applicable
  • Enroll in Educator Prep Courses at an approved university offering the following endorsement: Health Science (Endorsement Code: 720) if applicable

Job Overview: The Health Science teacher will be responsible for courses related to the health sciences field. Health science is one of the largest industries in the country, with more than 11 million jobs, including the self-employed. The health science industry includes establishments ranging from small-town private practice physicians who employ only one medical assistant to busy inner city hospitals that provide thousands of diverse jobs.
Job Functions:
  • Planning lessons in accordance with students' learning objectives.
  • Preparing the classroom
  • Providing instruction
  • Conducts and maintains a highly organized and professionally functioning classroom.
  • Maintains ongoing curriculum evaluation and development to meet the needs of students.
  • Collaborates with other faculty in the delivery of appropriate instructional approaches.
  • Implements curriculum and instruction in a manner consistent with TN State standards including understanding, modeling and encouragement of independent thinking skills, creative problem solving and abstract reasoning.
  • Shows empathy and understanding of students.
  • Proactively resolves problems that might arise with students and parents.
  • Facilitates parent/student/teacher conferences.
  • Continues professional development.
  • Follows policies established by the Maury County Public School Board and Tennessee State Department of Education.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Able to be a positive team-player and communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, students, and families
  • Open to being coached and receiving feedback to advance learning and growth for students.

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a "Quality Program of Study" as directed by the TDOE CCTE Department
  • The principal may assign extra co-curricular duties, meetings, committees, and professional development throughout the school year.
  • The Health Science teacher will also be responsible for sponsoring an active Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) through HOSA
