Job description
Job Description We're looking for a motivated communications professional to join the Public Affairs team and support key brand reputation initiatives across Lockheed Martin. Under the direction of the senior manager of Public Affairs, the ideal candidate will work across multiple functions and business areas to delivery timely and relevant content directly aligned with the priorities of the Government Affairs team. This role will develop strategic content, coordinate integrated communications initiatives, and deliver tactics through a variety of both internal and external communications channels including Tier-1 media engagements.
This position serves as a trusted communications partner across the Corporate Communications organization, collaborating closely with Government Affairs, Legal, CEO/COO Communications, Global Business Development & Strategy, and business area communications teams. Strategic Communications Develop messaging, presentations, briefing materials, talking points, and written content that clearly communicate key priorities for the Government Affairs team. Build and execute an annual audience engagement strategy for key stakeholders, aligned with the existing milestone and outreach calendars.
Translate complex policy topics into compelling talking points tailored for external and internal stakeholders. Develop external-facing communications and materials, including talking points, briefing documents, executive remarks, stakeholder correspondence, fact sheets, and public statements. Support media and thought leadership efforts by identifying opportunities to elevate the organization's perspective and positioning leaders as credible voices on issues relevant to the business.
Drive consistency of messaging across all outreach and navigate complex diplomatic protocols. Responsible for discovering, tracking, and alerting breaking news and impactful narratives, and measuring and implementing innovative advocacy communications, and rapid response strategies to support brand reputation. Track project milestones and ensure communications activities remain aligned with business priorities and executive expectations.
Support broader enterprise engagement requirements, collaborating across the business to conduct research, prepare prep materials, identify, develop, and manage opportunities for and assist with narrative development and related messaging for use with and through third parties, government partners, and media outlets as required. Exercise political savvy and anticipate potential friction points in the execution of strategic messaging. Other duties as assigned.
Brand Reputation Support preparation for media interviews, conferences, customer engagements, and policy forums. Research emerging industry, defense, geopolitical, technology, and policy developments to strengthen executive positioning. As required, draft remarks, articles, presentation materials, and strategic messaging for senior leaders.
Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including media, government officials, policymakers, industry associations, community leaders, advocacy organizations, and other external partners. Advise senior leaders on public affairs opportunities, emerging issues, stakeholder dynamics, and external engagement strategies. Lead issues management and response efforts, anticipating potential reputational or policy risks and developing coordinated strategies and messaging.
Partner with advocacy and Think Tank LMGA teams to drive reputational storytelling. Basic Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in one of the following disciplines: PR, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Political Science, Public Policy, International Relations and/or equivalent experience/combined education. Generally has 5+ years of related experience and may have a post-secondary degree or training in a related discipline.
Significant communications experience in aerospace/defense, publicly traded company, government or B2G public relations or communications agency / consultancy, preferred. Prior experience in political research, political campaigns, "war room" operations public affairs, or on Capitol Hill, preferred. Ability to build both strategic and tactical plans that drive perceptions, deliver key messages and get results.
Familiarity with a wide variety of communication channels, techniques and emerging technologies, with a natural curiosity that leads to continuous improvement. Strong interest in domestic and international political and policy dynamics and their implications for media and messaging strategy preferred. Familiarity with contemporary communications trends (AP Style).
Motivated self-starter who works effectively under competing priorities and tight deadlines, with close attention to detail, tact and collaboration. Ability to travel and operate a motor vehicle, as required. Desired Skills Experience supporting communications within a publicly traded company, government organization, aerospace and defense company, or strategic communications consulting firm.
Strong understanding of think tanks, third-party, advocacy groups, and beltway news media. Strong project management skills. Experience working with government partners at the local and/or federal level.
Strong research and analytical capabilities with the ability to synthesize complex information quickly. Knowledge of national security, defense, aerospace, technology, or geopolitical issues. Experience in translating complex concepts and scripts into clear, engaging visual storyboards and narrative arcs.
Strong organizational and project management skills with exceptional attention to detail. Proficiency using Microsoft Office, collaboration tools, and communications planning platforms. An intellectually curious communications professional who enjoys understanding complex business issues.
A strong writer capable of translating technical, financial, and strategic topics into compelling stories. Highly organized and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Calm under pressure with sound judgment and a commitment to quality.
