Job description
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience exercising formal supervisory authority, including developing performance standards, evaluating civilian/military personnel, and managing a multi-tiered workforce through subordinate supervisors or team leads.
- Experience formally supervising a multidisciplinary technical workforce in an operational meteorological or meteorological and oceanographic (METOC) environment, including setting performance standards, evaluating work, developing personnel, and making or recommending personnel actions. Experience must also include directing work through subordinate supervisors, division leads, or watch-team leaders.
- Experience providing senior scientific and technical leadership in operational meteorology/METOC, including evaluating or applying advanced weather-prediction capabilities and leading or overseeing the transition of research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E) capabilities into operational use. This includes coordination with scientific, technical, and operational partners.
- Experience serving in a senior operational leadership role supporting maritime and/or aviation operations, including assessing and resolving complex weather-related operational or safety risks and overseeing or supporting maritime routing operations, such as Optimum Track Ship Routing (OTSR). Experience must include delivering time-sensitive meteorological risk briefings and recommendations to senior military, civilian, allied, or coalition leaders.
*Minimum Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in meteorology, atmospheric science and/or physical oceanography with three years' experience in extended weather prediction, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience in meteorology.*

A. Degree: meteorology, atmospheric science, or other natural science major that included:
- At least 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of credit in meteorology/atmospheric science including a minimum of:
- Six semester hours of atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics
- Six semester hours of analysis and prediction of weather systems (synoptic/mesoscale)
- Three semester hours of physical meteorology.
- Two semester hours of remote sensing of the atmosphere and/or instrumentation.
- Six semester hours of physics, with at least one course that includes laboratory sessions.
- Three semester hours of ordinary differential equations.
- At least nine semester hours of course work appropriate for a physical science major in any combination of three or more of the following: physical hydrology, statistics, chemistry, physical oceanography, physical climatology, radiative transfer, aeronomy, advanced thermodynamics, advanced electricity and magnetism, light and optics, and computer science.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
