CSMC is developing a micro nuclear reactor for remote applications likethe arctic,defence, and space exploration. Led by a team with a mix of entrepreneurial and institutional experience at the highest level, we are a bleeding edge company, working at the intersection of energy, geology/geophysics, health technologies, space systems, and imagineering.

We'renotgonnado it alone though, andwe're hiring a Computer Science Intern.Youwill work directly with engineering leads,scientists,andcrossfunctionalproject teams.The position will support activities including but not limited tosoftware development,data analysis, research, preparation of technical presentations, support for design processes,project coordination, technical documentation management, and contributing to internal reports. The role will involvefacetsof project management, documentation, risk tracking, technical research, market awareness, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Main Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, test, andmaintainhigh-reliability software modules for space and defense systems.
  • Develop AI/ML pipelines and advanced data processing algorithms to ingest, clean, and analyze telemetry and sensordata streams.
  • Conduct simulations, testing, anditerative improvements to ensure algorithm robustness and accuracy in, e.g.,diverse geological environments.
  • Coordinate project tasks, timelines, meetings, action items, and cross-functional communication to support smooth project execution.
  • Track progress, dependencies, and risks, and helpidentifypractical mitigation actions.
  • Maintain organized project andtechnical documentation, including design specifications, methodologies, drawings, reports, and project records.
  • Support data analysis, technical reporting, presentations, and continuous improvement activities for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Attend project meetings, take minutes, and follow up on action items to ensuretimelycompletion.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments and advancements in the space/defense industry and related technologies.

Qualifications, Experience,Knowledgeand Skills Essential

  • Currently pursuing a 4th year of Bachelor's or a Master's, or PhDdegree inComputer Science,Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Strong programming foundations in, e.g., Python, with a demonstrated ability to write clean, efficient, and well-tested code.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of core computer science principles, such as data structures, algorithms, systems programming, and multithreading.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to bridge theoretical science (e.g., physics, signal processing) with practical software implementation.
  • Academic coursework or projects related to project management, technical documentation, data analysis, or reporting areadvantageous.
  • Scientific background is an asset, particularly in geophysics and quantum.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively withincrossfunctionalteams.
  • Highlydetailoriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks andmaintainaccuracy in documentation and reporting.

Employment Eligibility

CSMC works with highly sensitive nuclear, defence, and aerospace technologies, and all roles require eligibility for federal security screening and compliance with controlled goods and export regulations. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, able to obtain and maintain Government of Canada security clearance, and eligible to meet foreign affiliation and export control requirements.
