Job description

The New York State Museum seeks a Senior Museum Exhibit Designer to design and develop interactive exhibition environments, including the Kids Zone for preโ€‘K through 4th grade visitors, traveling exhibition spaces, and handsโ€‘on learning experiences for permanent and temporary exhibitions. The role involves collaborating with museum teams, exhibit developers, and lending institutions to create engaging, accessible visitor experiences across all age groups. The designer will develop floor plans, wall elevations, exhibit furniture, and threeโ€‘dimensional components while working with production teams through fabrication and installation.

Key qualifications
  • Six years of experience in architecture, exhibit design/planning, industrial design, museum exhibit design, or museum exhibit production
  • Demonstrated ability to design threeโ€‘dimensional exhibition environments and interactive learning spaces
  • Experience collaborating with museum professionals including scientists, historians, educators, and graphic designers
  • Proficiency in creating measured floor plans, wall elevations, and exhibit layouts
  • Knowledge of traveling exhibition integration and facility coordination requirements
