Job description

Engagement & Communications Intern

Audubon seeks an Engagement & Communications Intern to provide critical capacity in digital communications, data-base management, and statewide chapter support.

The internship is a paid semester long internship designed to give students and early-career professionals hands-on nonprofit experience while contributing to conservation capacity-building in Texas. Across Texas, there are 19 Audubon affiliated chapters supporting our mission to protect birds and the places they need today and tomorrow through local grassroots community outreach and education. In an effort to advance their impact, we are looking to support their work through technology advances on their websites, creating informational hubs for easy resource access, connecting chapters with the next generation of birders through social media, and other opportunities in collaboration with the intern, Audubon Texas, and the Chapters.

The intern will manage digital tools and resources, support communications, and collaborate with chapter leaders to aid their outreach efforts to meet our Flight Plan Community Building Milestone of growing and mobilizing a broader, more diverse network of people who care about birds and the places they need. Beyond their primary responsibilities, the intern will also have opportunities to learn from Audubon program staff and explore conservation career pathways.

Length of Internship: The internship is expected to last between 10-15 weeks. Location: Remote Texas; opportunities for hybrid work in Texas. Hours: 15 hours per week anticipated. Intern Schedule: Monday โ€“ Friday, working hours between 8am-5pm, flexible schedule and times available. Projected Start Date/End Date: aligned with fall and spring academic semesters estimating start date Sep 1.

This role is remote with flexibility for in-person experiences when possible.

Compensation: $20.00 โ€“ $22.50 / hour.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain and enhance digital libraries and shared resource platforms for Audubon chapters.
  • Create toolkits, templates, and guides to support chapter operations, communications, and fundraising.
  • Assist with website updates and social media content creation for Audubon and affiliated chapters.
  • Help coordinate chapter engagement activities, such as quarterly check-ins and training webinars and the in-person gathering in September in Austin, Texas
  • Collect and synthesize feedback from chapters to assess needs and strengthen support systems.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, including shadowing Audubon program staff or visiting Audubon centers.
  • Maintains and fosters culture of safety.
