Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Mid-America Christian University seeks an adjunct on-campus faculty member with a passion for teaching and a desire to join the faculty and staff to instruct undergraduate courses in chemistry, microbiology, anatomy and physiology, and other related science subjects. The applicant must have a steadfast Christian background.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide quality instruction and feedback for students in assigned course(s) and laboratory section(s)
  • Be available on-ground for scheduled labs, office hours, and to provide support for student learning
  • Follow the course syllabus, which is based on the master syllabus of the course, aligned to student outcomes of the program, and approved by the Chair or Director
  • Participate in the University Outcomes Assessment process
  • Communicate with the Chair or Supervising Faculty on a regular basis, and work with the Lab Manager to schedule any missed lab assignments for students with an excused absence
  • Continuously maintain proficiency in the content area, including laboratory procedures
  • Maintain appropriate student and administrative records for the classroom and laboratory setting
  • Support lab personnel with preparation, clean-up, and maintenance of lab equipment, supplies, and cadaver specimens
  • Respond to students, administrators, faculty, and staff in a timely manner
  • Support the mission and goals of Mid-America Christian University

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess excellent communication, both oral and written, and organizational skills necessaryfor the position, and to work effectively with individuals and groups
  • Must be flexible in scheduling, which may include days, nights, and weekends
  • Must demonstrate effective teaching skills using various delivery formats, value teaching students, and wish to contribute fully to the life and mission of the University

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Master's required with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in subject content, or a Master’s Degree with an additional 18 graduate credit hours in the subject content. Prefer applicants with or near completion of a doctorate in the appropriate field. Faculty must be experienced in and demonstrate strong teaching skills. Prefer applicants with previous teaching experience in undergraduate courses. Appropriate coursework and knowledge of the subject material arenecessary for this position. Faculty members at MACU also serve as spiritual mentors and are expected to possess an active, mature Christian faith and to be involved in a local church.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Experience with interactive computer programs (e.g., Zoom)
  • Experience with D2L, Canvas, or Blackboard – MACU utilizes Canvas

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Operate a computer with a keyboard, pointing device, webcam, and speakers
  • Stand and sit for extended periods
  • Walk around the classroom and labs and to/from parking lots and buildings
  • Stand, bend, and crouch
  • Reach, grasp, move, and hold objects
  • Verbally express information or instructions
  • Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 20 pounds
  • Exercise clear vision at 20 inches or less and adjust focus
  • Judge distances and spatial relationships

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Online, lab (on-campus), and classroom settings
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials
