Core Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a school bus along assigned routes, following all traffic laws and district schedules
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting mechanical issues promptly
  • Pick up and drop off students at designated stops on time
  • Maintain discipline and ensure student safety and behavior standards while on board
  • Use required safety equipment (mirrors, seat belts, emergency exits, wheelchair lifts if applicable)
  • Follow all state/district regulations for school bus operation and student transportation
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, school staff, and parents regarding routes, delays, or incidents
  • Complete required paperwork (attendance logs, incident reports, mileage logs)
  • Assist students with boarding/exiting, including those with special needs
  • Respond calmly and appropriately to emergencies (medical, mechanical, weather-related)
  • Keep the bus clean and report any needed maintenance
  • Maintain a valid CDL with passenger (P) and school bus (S) endorsements, and pass required background checks/drug screenings
