Job description

The bus driver will perform the following duties:

  • Operate the daily bus route, morning and afternoon, to and from the Bluffton campus to neighboring communities such as Hilton Head or the Beaufort area.
  • Maintain an orderly bus environment among the riders
  • Clean assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior
  • Help transport vehicles for maintenance purposes
  • Fuel buses as needed
  • The bus driver will have the option to drive for field trips during school hours, as well as athletic events in the evenings or weekends, but these are secondary to the primary task of driving the daily morning and afternoon routes.

Requirements

This position includes the following requirements:

  • Must have a current CDL with proper certifications to transport students. Air Brakes certification preferred.
  • Must have acceptable driving record
  • Must meet physical requirements associated with maintaining updated CDL status
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check
  • This position works with elementary school aged students through middle / high school students, all riding on the same bus. The HHCA bus driver MUST be able to interact with students with a calm, kind and patient demeanor, while also being able to hold them accountable to bus rules.
  • This position must be a team player who knows when to properly refer a discipline issue or a parent issue to the appropriate supervisor.
