What is a school based RBT?

School-based Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) are trained professionals who work within educational settings to provide behavior therapy and support to students, particularly those with autism or other developmental disorders. They implement behavior intervention plans designed by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) to help students develop social, academic, and life skills. RBTs work closely with teachers, school staff, and families to ensure consistent and effective interventions, fostering a positive learning environment for students.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a school based Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)?

To thrive as a School-Based RBT, you need a solid understanding of applied behavior analysis (ABA), behavior intervention strategies, and must hold an RBT certification. Familiarity with data collection systems, behavior tracking software, and progress reporting tools is essential. Strong communication, patience, and collaboration skills are vital for working effectively with students, teachers, and support staff. These competencies ensure effective implementation of behavioral interventions and promote positive educational outcomes for students with behavioral challenges.

How does a school based RBT typically collaborate with teachers and other educational staff?

A School Based Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) works closely with teachers, special education staff, and school psychologists to support students with behavioral or developmental needs. Collaboration often involves regular communication, participating in team meetings, and sharing observations to help develop and implement individualized behavior intervention plans. RBTs may also provide in-class support, assist in data collection, and offer strategies to teachers for managing challenging behaviors, ensuring a cohesive approach to student success.

Job description

School-Based Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)

Creative Interventions, LLC

Launch Your Career in ABA — With Real Mentorship Behind You

Are you looking to build a meaningful career in Applied Behavior Analysis? Creative Interventions is hiring a School-Based Registered Behavior Technician to provide direct, in-classroom support to students while working alongside experienced BCBAs who are genuinely invested in your growth.

This isn't just a job — it's a launching pad. Whether you're aiming to become a BCBA yourself, exploring special education, or simply want hands-on experience that matters, you'll be mentored every step of the way.

What You'll Do
  • Provide direct 1:1 and small-group behavioral support to students within a school setting
  • Implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and skill-acquisition programs under BCBA supervision
  • Collect and record behavioral data accurately during sessions
  • Support students with communication, social, academic, and daily-living skills
  • Collaborate with teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers as part of a student's care team
  • Use de-escalation and proactive strategies to support students in crisis moments, always working from a trauma-informed, assent-based approach
  • Participate in ongoing supervision meetings and skills training
What We're Looking For
  • Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification (or actively pursuing certification — we'll help you get there)
  • High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in psychology, education, or a related field preferred
  • Experience working with children, especially those with autism or developmental disabilities, is a plus
  • Patience, reliability, and a genuine desire to help students grow
  • Comfort working within a school environment and as part of a larger team
  • Reliable transportation to assigned school site(s)
Why Creative Interventions?

Real Mentorship, Not Just a Checklist You'll receive ongoing, structured supervision from Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) who prioritize your clinical development.

A Clear Path Forward Thinking about becoming a BCBA or BCaBA? We actively support RBTs pursuing further certification, including:

  • Guidance navigating coursework and fieldwork requirements
  • Supervised fieldwork hours toward BCaBA/BCBA certification
  • Exposure to assessment, program design, and consultation — not just implementation

A Team That Has Your Back You won't be figuring things out alone. You'll be part of a collaborative clinical team, with access to experienced consultants, shared resources, and a culture that values asking questions.

Meaningful, Every-Day Impact You'll see the direct results of your work — a student mastering a new skill, a calmer transition between classes, a moment of real connection. Few entry points into this field offer this much hands-on, visible impact.
