Summary

At DSV Road Transport, the Control Tower Specialist, Cloud Logistics supports the execution of transportation activities across the first, middle, and final mile network by providing timely and accurate shipment visibility. This role is responsible for actively monitoring freight movements, tracking key shipment milestones, and maintaining current shipment status information throughout the transportation lifecycle.

The Control Tower Specialist obtains shipment updates through available GPS and tracking systems and direct communication with drivers, carriers, brokerage offices, and other transportation partners. The position is responsible for updating shipment reporting at least every two hours, identifying potential delays or exceptions, and escalating issues to the appropriate team members for resolution.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitor active shipments and transportation milestones from origin pickup through final delivery.
  • Review and update shipment tracking reports at least every two hours to ensure current and accurate shipment visibility.
  • Track key shipment milestones, including pickup, in-transit status, estimated arrival, delivery, and other required customer or operational checkpoints.
  • Obtain shipment status updates using available GPS, tracking systems, Transportation Management Systems (TMS), and other technology platforms.
  • Contact drivers, carriers, brokerage offices, and other transportation partners to obtain status updates when current information is not available electronically.
  • Document shipment updates, estimated arrival times, delays, and other relevant information accurately and timely within required systems and reports.
  • Monitor shipments for missed milestones, potential delays, or other exceptions and escalation concerns to the appropriate team member for resolution.
  • Follow up on outstanding shipment updates and open items to ensure accurate and complete reporting.
  • Communicate timely shipment status information and updates to internal stakeholders as required.
  • Track first, middle, and final mile movements and identify potential service disruptions or delays.
  • Confirm delivery status and supporting shipment information when required.
  • Maintain accurate and consistent shipment data within the Transportation Management System (TMS) and other tracking tools.
  • Follow established customer requirements, operating procedures, and escalation processes.
  • Support the Control Tower team with shipment research, reporting, and other operational activities as needed.
  • Support ad-hoc reporting and project assignments as delegated by management.
  • Perform other duties, projects, and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1–2 years of experience in transportation, logistics, freight brokerage, customer service, dispatch, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with transportation management, shipment tracking, GPS, or similar technology platforms preferred.
  • Experience communicating with drivers, carriers, or transportation providers is a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams.
  • Ability to learn and effectively use Transportation Management Systems (TMS), GPS tracking platforms, and other transportation technology.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate shipment information.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to monitor multiple shipments and priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable communicating by phone with drivers, carriers, brokerage offices, and internal teams to obtain shipment information.
  • Ability to identify potential delays or exceptions and elevate issues appropriately.
  • Ability to follow established processes, procedures, and customer requirements.
  • Basic problem-solving skills and ability to research missing or incomplete shipment information.

Physical Demands

The position primarily involves sedentary work in an office setting. The employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods while working at a computer, speaking on the phone, and participating in virtual meetings. Frequent use of hands and fingers is necessary to operate a keyboard, mouse, phone, and other standard office equipment. The role requires regular verbal and written communication and the ability to exchange accurate information with carriers, team members, and internal stakeholders. Occasional standing, walking, reaching, and bending may be required to retrieve files or collaborate with team members. The employee may occasionally lift or move office materials weighing up to approximately 15 pounds, such as files, documents, or a laptop. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to focus on computer screens for extended periods.

This position operates in a professional office environment, requiring sustained focus in a fast-paced setting with frequent interruptions, competing priorities, and time-sensitive demands. The employee will work with multiple monitors, phone systems, and transportation management/tracking platforms throughout the workday. Exposure to moderate noise levels typical of an office or operations center is expected. This position may require availability outside standard business hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays, to support continuous shipment monitoring and respond to delays, exceptions, or urgent operational needs.
