Job description

SCB is seeking talented Project Architects to join our Los Angeles office. We're a national, multi-disciplinary design firm with a focus on multi-family residential, adaptive reuse, academic, and aviation projects.

At SCB, everyone engages in design. Our team is agile, creative, and efficient. Our work is thoughtful, distinctive, and responsive. We're proud of our diverse team and value the broad range of perspectives, experiences, and skills they bring to each project.

We're looking for individuals who are passionate about design, collaborative by nature, and possess an advanced understanding of building materials, systems, detailing, and construction methods. You will have the opportunity to work with a team of talented professionals on all aspects of project design and development under the direct supervision of a Project Manager and/or Principal. You will also closely collaborate with the project team, including consultants, to prepare design studies, graphic representations, technical drawings, studies, and other materials related to architectural design.

Your Qualifications
  • Accredited professional degree in architecture
  • 10+ years post-graduate, full-time working experience in an architectural firm
  • Licensed Architect in the U.S.
  • A strong design sensibility and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to lead a project including consultants and internal staff
  • Working knowledge of, and demonstrated experience with, local zoning ordinances and building codes
  • Technical knowledge of building systems, material assemblies, and engineering concepts
  • Capable of performing all construction phase activities including review of shop drawings, responding to Contractor questions (RFI's), conducting site visits and participating in BIM coordination meetings
  • Proficient in Revit, Bluebeam, Newforma and Excel; familiarity with software programs such as Enscape, SketchUp, Rhino, Affinity and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Multi-family residential, Hospitality, Campus Environments, or Aviation project experience preferred
The Role
  • Implement project design philosophy and work toward the successful execution of the project through design and construction phases
  • Develop design and technical drawings, visualizations, and studies in collaboration with project leaders
  • Organize the work efforts of SCB's project team on a day-to-day basis and function as the primary facilitator of communication between the in-house team and external consultants
  • Manage time and organize tasks effectively to meet project deadlines, including oversight of junior team members
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, including direct coordination with design consultants, contractors, clients and authorities having jurisdiction
  • Lead team meetings and client presentations, working closely with multidisciplinary teams
  • Mentor and train junior staff in a constructive and thoughtful manner
  • Research and promote opportunities for new or innovative system applications; proactively look for and implement processes to improve work product and efficiency.
  • Engage with the project and studio team with a positive, team-first attitude and willingness to learn and contribute to the project and firm's success
What We Offer
  • Salary: $105,000 - $155,000 depending on experience
  • Benefits: We support our teams with competitive, comprehensive benefits including, but not limited to, medical, dental, disability, paid holidays and time off, and 401K retirement matching. SCB has an established flexible work environment, and we encourage our employees to lead healthy and balanced lives.
  • Professional Growth: SCB is committed to learning and mentorship. We offer robust coaching and professional development resources to support your growth, including training programs, mentoring, and reimbursement for licensing exams and professional memberships. We believe investing in our people is an investment in the future of the AEC community.
