Job description

Building Maintenance Painter
Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Building Maintenance Painter at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):
POSITION PURPOSE
Paint the interior and exterior surfaces of Universitybuildings, offices and equipment utilizing a variety of techniques andequipment common to this trade.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Prepare differing surfaces for painting and/or wallpaperingby using methods such as sanding, scraping, washing, spackling and applyingpaint remover and/or sizing. Determine appropriate method based on surface tobe worked on and job specification.
Mix paint by blending colors according to chart,specification or to match color currently on surface to be painted. Erect anduse ladders, scaffolds, swinging stages, and other equipment to reach paintingsurfaces at any height and in any location on campus. May putty existing glassor cut and install new glass panes using appropriate methods.
Cover equipment and areas adjacent to surfaces to befinished with protective papers and/or tarpaulins. Remove and replacenon-permanent fixtures from surfaces; assure permanent fixtures such asmoldings, chalkboards, etc. are covered or otherwise protected from unwantedcoverage.
Access and finish all types of surfaces such as walls,ceilings, trim, doors, furniture, machines and equipment which may be locatedat any height or angle. Cover a wide variety of materials such as wood, wallboard, plaster, concrete and metal using brushes, rollers and sprayers;measure, cut and hang wallpaper using equipment such as brushes, knives,measuring devices; determine appropriate method and equipment to be used; applyfinishing products which may have unpleasant and/or hazardous fumes; work withtoxic chemicals and agents.
Clean and maintain supplies and equipment. Remove finishingagents from brushes, surfaces, equipment, etc.; dispose of excess materials andsupplies properly; replace non-permanent fixtures after job is completed;uncover surfaces protected during work; assure job sight is neat, orderly andfree from unwanted paint, supplies and/or equipment. Maintain safe workingconditions at all times by using supplies and equipment properly and takingnecessary precautions.
All Painters are considered to be "EssentialPersonnel," and are required to report during a university emergencyclosure period.
Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of an authorized journeyman's license as apainter.
Ability to transport, use and maintain the full range ofpainting and wallpapering supplies and equipment, including brushes, rollers,sprayers, knives, sanders, scaffolding, swingstages, ladders, varnish, paintremover, sizing. etc.
Ability to access surfaces at varying heights and angles forpainting from ground level to several stories high.
Possession and maintenance of a valid Michigan vehicleoperator's license and satisfactory driving record as determined by Universitypolicy.
Some experience preparing and finishing all types ofsurfaces.
Must obtain security clearance.
