What does the job involve? The Control Room Operator will lead the safe and efficient operation of Empire Windfarm from our Central Control Room located in Brooklyn, NY. Empire is located off the coast of NYC and connects the electric grid in Brooklyn, NY. This position requires knowledge of electric generation associated with operational and technical skills to perform the tasks and responsibilities for this role at Equinor. For Equinor the Control Room Operator will assist in delivering the KPIs for the Control Center and Operations Department. This role will report to the US Control Center Manager.
You are utilizing your knowledge to independently solve complex tasks with a short-term operational or tactical impact/risk. You deliver on tasks defined by others (and potentially partly defined by you) with significant impacts on team objectives. You independently communicate within the immediate team, across different areas, and towards key stakeholders, including partners or external parties. You may navigate potentially conflicting agendas. You adhere to established procedures and identify as well as resolve challenges. You proactively seek continuous improvement, embrace change and ambiguity, You demonstrate flexibility to adopt new activities and ways of working, and take ownership of your own work. What will my tasks be?

Within this position, your key tasks will be to:

  • Responsible for day-to-day operation and dispatch of the plant to the electric grid.

  • Monitor/control access to unmanned locations.

  • Weather monitoring and vessel tracking.

  • SCADA/HMI/CCTV systems to monitor and safely operate all corresponding parts of the plant and auxiliary systems (Onshore substation, Offshore Substation and Wind Turbine Generators).

  • Respond to alarms and abnormal conditions in a timely manner and report any issues to appropriate governing agencies if necessary (Grid Operator, NYISO, NYPD, FDNY, USCG, ETC.).

  • Maintain operator logs and input work orders when required.

  • Responsible for proper isolations (LOTO) and permit issuing for corrective, planned and emergency maintenance. Successfully complete all the training required for the position of Control Room Operator.

  • May be asked to temporarily stand in for Control Room Manager from time to time.

  • Monitor and control of the Wind Turbines Generators. Operate the Work Release system including activation and deactivation of work.

Salary range: $39 - $86/hr
