Job description

Reporting to the Shop Supervisor, the Machinist Helper assists and learns from an experienced CNC Machinist. The Machinist Helper will learn to operate milling machines, lathes, grinders, sanders, and other various machining tools, as well asassist in the repair and maintenance of machining equipment according to company plans, blueprints and other diagrams.  


  • Assist with set up, operation and maintaining a variety of machine tools including computer numerically controlled (CNC) tools to perform precision, non-repetitive machining operations such as sawing, turning, milling, boring, planning, drilling, precision grinding and other operations.  
  • Read and interpret blueprints/drawings 
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of machining equipment  
  • Assist with detecting equipment malfunctions and adjust machines 
  • Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office  
  • Comply with company ISO quality program and procedures, company policies and safety regulations. 
  • Assist with maintaining inspection records and completion of inspection reports.  
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of industry standards and practices.  
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • Previous experience in welding and fabrication would be considered an asset 
  • Physical ability to lift 50 pounds 
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with others and be able to work in a team 
  • Ability to follow written instructions, standard operating procedures, and pre-defined guidelines to execute and perform the functions of the job. 
  • Demonstrate attention to detail skills. 
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced, shop production environment 
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001 environment would be considered an asset
