The Industrial Electrician will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing heavy industrial equipment, conveyor systems, and mobile equipment at Savage's Detroit Handling operation inside the Marathon refinery.
What You'll Be Doing:
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment, including conveyors, motors, pumps, hoists, cranes, and the facility.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment problems as they arise and repair or replace them as needed.
  • Work with refinery personnel to obtain appropriate permitting procedures, such as LOTO, Safe Work, Confined Space, and Hot Work.
  • Perform work in compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Learn and partner with the Maintenance Supervisor to utilize the SAP system as a tool of organization and preventative maintenance, ordering, record keeping, including accurate and neat paperwork.
  • Perform preventive and major maintenance to conveyor systems used to transport the product throughout the refinery, such as gearbox oil changes, roller change-outs, motor replacement, belt splicing, and assisting in changing conveyor belts.
  • General maintenance, including but not limited to cleaning, housekeeping, and other facility maintenance activities.
  • Take an active role in the safety program, including attending all safety meetings, adhering to procedures, and ensuring the safe behavior of oneself and coworkers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Need to Be Successful:
  • Able to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic schematics and the sequence of operations, and be able to perform repairs as needed.
  • Operate forklifts and man-lifts as needed.
  • Understands, or is willing and able to learn, safe work operations throughout the refinery.
  • Can work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Positive attitude and a good team member.
  • Must be able to attend and pass all tests associated with job-related coursework. This includes, but is not limited to: OSHA (Confined Space, Hot Work, Fall Protection, Aerial lifts, Forklifts, etc.)
  • Able to reliably fulfill a 40-hour-per-week schedule, including being on call nights and weekends.
  • Effectively communicate both verbally and in written form.

Preferred Education/Experience:
  • Current/valid Electrical license or Journeyman equivalent
  • Minimum 1-year experience in a heavy-industrial maintenance facility
  • A high school diploma, or equivalent
  • Current/valid driver's license

Physical Requirements:
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Climb multiple flights of stairs and work at heights over 60 feet
  • Good hand dexterity and able to work in confined spaces
  • Stand for up to 4 hours at a time.
  • Pass a respirator fit test.
  • Handles large tools and lifts 50 lbs
  • Can discern color differences
