Job description

To keep the Proctor Library open, navigable, and welcoming by staffing public service points and maintaining the collection, and to provide courteous, prompt, and professional service to all students, faculty, and staff of Flagler College. This position directly sustains front-line library operations that professional staff cannot cover alone.  

This position carries real responsibility and builds a durable, transferable skill set. Students are trusted with consequential tasks and leave with professional experience that translates directly to their careers.

Student worker positions provide valuable on-campus employment opportunities that support departments while helping students develop professional skills. These roles are intended to enhance the student experience through meaningful work aligned with academic and career interests.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to complete tasks in an orderly fashion and maintain an agreed-upon schedule; prompt, energetic, and professional in the Library.  
  • Knowledge of the Library of Congress Classification System is not required to be hired, but must be learned once in the role. 
  • Strong customer-service skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.   
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior library experience preferred. 
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Frequent lifting and carrying of objects up to 25 lbs. 
  • Frequent pulling, pushing, reaching overhead, kneeling, stooping, and bending at the waist. 
Available Hours
  • Coverage is scheduled across the Library's operating hours: Monday-Thursday, 7:00 a.m.-midnight; Friday, 7:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.; Saturday, 10:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.; Sunday, 1:00 p.m.-midnight.  
  • Individual schedules are set within the 19-hour weekly cap around the student's classes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Staff the circulation desk and assist patrons in a friendly, professional manner, serving as a first point of contact for students seeking help.  
  • Answer the library's phones and serve as a first point of contact for students and members of the Flagler community, communicating library policies clearly and professionally.  
  • Open and close the library as scheduled. Prepare public spaces at the start of the day and secure the building, collections, and equipment at close.  
  • Provide students with basic research and citation assistance and refer more complex questions to library staff, a direct, documented driver of student engagement and persistence.  
  • Keep collections in order and accessible by shelving and performing shelf maintenance such as shelf reading and inventory.  
  • Assist patrons with troubleshooting printer, computer, and loaner-laptop issues, and help maintain and update the technology.  
  • Perform other library-related duties as required by the Access Services Librarian or Director of Library Services.  
  • Assist library staff with administrative projects as assigned.  
  • Represent the Library during campus programming and presentations as needed, acting as an ambassador for the Library and the College.
