Job Title: Ground Systems Engineer

Location: Chantilly, VA

Position Summary:
Stratos Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Ground Systems Engineer to support the development and management of complex satellite ground software for a government program. The successful candidate will lead and contribute to all aspects of systems engineering, including concept and design, development, testing and integration, and delivery of critical ground software capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the end-to-end systems engineering lifecycle for satellite ground software development, from concept and design to integration and delivery.
  • Develop and refine system architectures and ensure alignment with mission objectives and requirements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define and document system and software requirements, including performance, reliability, and security specifications.
  • Manage the development process, including working closely with software development teams to ensure adherence to system requirements and schedules.
  • Lead and support testing and integration efforts, including system validation, verification, and performance testing.
  • Monitor and assess the delivery of ground software capabilities, ensuring compliance with contractual and technical requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise to the government in assessing software progress, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, best practices, and methodologies relevant to satellite ground systems and software engineering.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • At least 8 years of experience in systems engineering, with a focus on satellite ground systems or similar complex software development projects.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies and tools like Jira, Confluence, or similar.
  • Experience in requirements development, system design, and verification and validation (V&V).
  • Familiarity with software development methodologies, tools, and frameworks.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices in satellite ground systems and software engineering.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including software developers, testers, and government stakeholders.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of satellite operations, mission planning, or telemetry systems.
