Job description

We are seeking highly qualified, dedicated, and engaging In-Person SAT, English, and/or Math Tutors to provide individualized academic support to middle school and high school students. Candidates may specialize in SAT preparation, English, math, or a combination of these subjects. The ideal candidate will have strong subject knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to engage, motivate, and support students with different academic needs and learning styles.


Responsibilities:


Conduct Individualized Tutoring Sessions:

  • Provide one-on-one or small-group tutoring sessions for middle school and high school students.
  • Tutor students in one or more of the following areas: SAT Math, SAT Reading and Writing, English, grammar, reading comprehension, and essay writing, Middle school and high school math (Math subjects may include algebra, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, and calculus, depending on the tutor’s qualifications and the student’s needs)
  • Teach effective SAT test-taking strategies, time-management techniques, and approaches for solving different question types when applicable.

Develop Customized Lesson Plans:

  • Create personalized lesson plans based on each student’s academic level, goals, learning style, and areas for improvement.
  • Use appropriate instructional materials, worksheets, practice tests, and teaching techniques to strengthen students’ understanding and application of key concepts.
  • Prepare or assign appropriate practice work and homework when needed.
  • Adapt lessons based on the subjects the tutor is qualified to teach.

Assessment and Progress Monitoring:

  • Evaluate students’ current skill levels through assessments, assignments, practice questions, and discussions.
  • Monitor and track students' progress over time, providing constructive feedback and adjusting lesson plans accordingly.
  • Assess students’ progress regularly and write a simple progress reports after each session. Reports should summarize what was covered, the student’s performance, areas of improvement, and recommended next steps. It should only take 5-10 minutes after each class (we pay per progress report), and you will be compensated for this.

Motivate and Encourage Students:

  • Inspire a positive attitude towards math by fostering a supportive and encouraging learning environment.
  • Encourage a positive attitude toward English, math, and standardized test preparation.
  • Motivate students to develop stronger study habits, critical-thinking skills, and independent learning strategies.

Adaptability:

  • Adjust tutoring strategies based on each student’s academic needs, learning style, progress, and feedback.
  • Communicate professionally with students, parents, and Park Tutoring staff.
  • Stay informed about relevant curriculum standards, SAT updates, and effective teaching methodologies.
  • Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled in-person sessions.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, English, Education, or a related field.
  • Previous tutoring or teaching experience with middle school and/or high school students.
  • Strong knowledge in at least one of the following areas: SAT Math, SAT Reading and Writing, Middle school or high school English, Middle school or high school math
  • Competitive SAT, ACT, AP, or other standardized test scores are strongly preferred for SAT tutoring applicants.
  • Teaching certification is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to commute to our Irvine office: 930 Roosevelt, Irvine, CA Suite # 207.
