Role: SAP MDG Lead
Department: Information Technology - SAP COE / Data Governance
Role Level: Functional/Data Lead
Reports To: SAP COE Leadership
Location: Tulsa, OK or Memphis, TN preferred
Travel: As needed
Position Summary
The SAP MDG Lead owns Clients SAP master data governance capability and helps establish the standards, workflows, quality controls, stewardship model, and operating discipline required for trusted SAP data. This role is responsible for building scalable governance around material, customer, vendor, finance, product, BOM, routing, and related master data domains. The role partners closely with Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance, Sales, Operations, Teamcenter/PLM, SAP COE, AMS, and business data owners.
Process Scope
  • Material master governance and data quality
  • Customer and vendor master governance
  • Product structure, BOM, routing, and engineering data dependencies
  • Finance master data, cost centers, profit centers, GL accounts, and controlling objects
  • SAP MDG roadmap, workflows, validations, roles, and stewardship model
  • Data standards, data ownership, quality dashboards, and cleansing initiatives
  • Integration with Teamcenter, SAP S/4HANA, analytics, and future plant rollouts

Key Responsibilities
Governance and Data Ownership
  • Establish and maintain SAP master data governance policies, standards, ownership models, and approval workflows.
  • Partner with business data owners and data stewards to define who owns data quality, decision rights, and remediation actions.
  • Create clear standards for critical SAP fields, naming conventions, mandatory attributes, lifecycle states, and data quality rules.
  • Help create a practical data governance council or operating cadence focused on SAP master data decisions and escalations.

SAP MDG Solution Ownership
  • Own SAP MDG functional design, governance workflows, validation rules, change requests, roles, and integration points.
  • Be responsible for implementing SAP MDG, including coordination across business, functional, technical, and AMS teams to deliver the solution effectively.
  • Partner with technical teams and AMS to support MDG configuration, enhancements, reporting, and workflow improvements.
  • Ensure MDG design supports AAON manufacturing processes, product complexity, plant rollouts, and business scalability.
  • Challenge custom or manual data governance approaches that undermine long-term data quality or process discipline.

Data Quality and Continuous Improvement
  • Define and monitor data quality KPIs across master data domains.
  • Lead data cleansing, duplicate reduction, field completion, and master data remediation initiatives.
  • Partner with process leads to identify how poor data causes business defects in QTI, FTP, EWM, PTP, and RTR.
  • Support data readiness activities for future plant rollouts, stabilization initiatives, analytics, and process transformation.

Documentation, Training, and Stewardship
  • Maintain data standards, governance procedures, data definitions, field ownership documents, and training materials.
  • Train data stewards and business users on governance processes, approval workflows, data quality expectations, and issue escalation.
  • Mentor data analysts and stewards to build internal master data capability.
  • Ensure documentation and standards remain current as SAP processes and organizational structures evolve.

Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years SAP master data, SAP MDG, data governance, SAP functional data experience.
  • Strong understanding of SAP master data impacts across business processes.
  • Experience defining data standards, workflows, data ownership, and data quality controls.
  • Ability to work across business functions and translate data issues into process and system impacts.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, communication, and governance skills.
