What is an SAP EAM?

An SAP EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) job involves managing and maintaining an organization's physical assets using SAP's EAM module. Professionals in this role work with SAP software to streamline asset lifecycle processes, ensuring equipment reliability and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities may include configuring EAM modules, analyzing maintenance data, and optimizing asset performance. Typically, SAP EAM specialists work in industries like manufacturing, utilities, oil & gas, and transportation. Strong knowledge of SAP PM (Plant Maintenance) and integration with other SAP modules is often required.

What is the difference between SAP PM and SAP EAM?

SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) is a module focused on maintenance planning, execution, and management of plant equipment, while SAP Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) is a broader solution that integrates maintenance with asset lifecycle management, procurement, and logistics. SAP EAM often encompasses SAP PM as part of its functionality, providing a comprehensive approach to managing physical assets across an organization. Job roles involving SAP EAM typically require knowledge of multiple modules and integration points within SAP's asset management environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the SAP EAM position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an SAP EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) specialist, you need a deep understanding of asset management processes, SAP EAM module configuration, and a background in engineering or information technology. Expertise in SAP S/4HANA, SAP PM (Plant Maintenance), and relevant certifications such as SAP Certified Application Associate – SAP EAM are highly valued. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills. These competencies are critical for optimizing maintenance processes, ensuring system reliability, and facilitating seamless collaboration across technical and business teams.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of an SAP EAM specialist?

As an SAP EAM specialist, your daily responsibilities often include configuring and maintaining the SAP EAM modules, troubleshooting and resolving user or system issues, and developing user documentation or training materials. You will collaborate closely with maintenance, engineering, and IT teams to optimize asset lifecycle management, ensure data accuracy, and implement best practices. Additionally, you may be involved in gathering requirements for system enhancements and supporting periodic upgrades. This role offers variety and the chance to make a tangible impact on asset reliability and operational efficiency within the organization.

Position Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced SAP EAM Functional Consultant to lead and support enterprise-wide SAP Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) initiatives. This role will be responsible for end-to-end functional design, configuration, and implementation of SAP EAM solutions, with a strong focus on Plant Maintenance (PM/SM) and Project Systems (PS). The consultant will act as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders, bridging business requirements with SAP best practices and emerging technologies.

  • Lead and support full lifecycle SAP EAM implementations, encompassing:
    • Business requirements gathering
    • Business workshops and gap analysis
    • Blueprinting and solution design
    • System configuration and customization
    • Testing (unit, integration, UAT)
    • Cutover planning, data migration, and go-live
    • End-user training and post go-live support
  • Assess current-state business processes, identify gaps and improvement opportunities, and define future-state EAM solutions aligned with business objectives.
  • Translate detailed business requirements into comprehensive functional and system design documents, ensuring accurate and efficient SAP configuration.
  • Capture business capability requirements, functional requirements, and service-level expectations, and develop SAP EAM solutions aligned to a business-IT roadmap supporting long-term strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with EAM architects and leadership to identify opportunities for emerging technologies and advise stakeholders on the impact of new technologies on existing systems and processes.
  • Ensure business and functional requirements are fully traceable and maintained throughout the development and configuration lifecycle.
  • Serve as a liaison between business stakeholders, vendors, project management, and technical teams to resolve issues, clarify requirements, and manage solution changes.
  • Guide and validate complex fit/gap analyses, ensuring deviations from standard SAP functionality are well-justified, value-driven, and aligned with business needs.
  • Manage engagement risk and economics, including planning, budgeting, deliverable definition, and stakeholder buy-in for proposed solutions.
  • Provide consulting services for both new SAP EAM implementations and existing SAP support/enhancement projects.
  • Deliver ad-hoc user training, knowledge transfer, and functional support as required.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and act as a subject matter expert and mentor to junior team members when needed.

Required Qualifications and Experience
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience designing, configuring, testing, implementing, and supporting Enterprise Asset Management solutions, preferably SAP EAM.
  • Proven experience with at least two (2) full-cycle SAP implementations (greenfield and/or brownfield).
  • Experience integrating newly acquired or merged entities into existing SAP platforms.
  • Strong understanding of modern SAP implementation methodologies and technology patterns.
  • Hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA EAM.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong presentation, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence decision-making and drive consensus across business and IT teams.

Flexible work from home options available.
