What are some common challenges nurses face when working in a chemical dependency or addiction education unit?

Nurses in chemical dependency or addiction education units often encounter challenges such as managing patients with complex behavioral needs, addressing relapse risks, and navigating the emotional toll of supporting individuals through recovery. Coordinating care with multidisciplinary teams—including counselors, social workers, and physicians—is essential, as is maintaining up-to-date knowledge of best practices in addiction treatment. These roles also require strong communication skills and the ability to foster trust with patients who may be hesitant or resistant to treatment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a SANE RN in a CHM ED, and why are they important?

To thrive as a SANE RN in a Child Maltreatment Emergency Department, you need specialized education in forensic nursing, current RN licensure, and certification as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner.
