Job description

Job Summary

The role of Grounds Technician is responsible for performing semi-skilled grounds construction/maintenance work and related tasks as required, such as: Raking and maintaining sand bunkers, operating small machinery to assist with edging, trimming, preparing soil beds for sod, seed and vegetative material, assisting with golf course set-up procedures operating utility vehicles for hauling material and removing debris and performing skilled duties related to experience (pruning, plugging, etc.). The role of Grounds Technician is also responsible for assisting the Grounds Technician I with mowing and greens care with the heavier small equipment.ย 

Primary Responsibilities &ย Essential Functions

  • Performs general golf course and landscape maintenance using hand help equipment, such as rakes, shovels, etc.ย 
  • Rakes and maintains sand bunkers using sand rakeย 
  • Assists with golf course set up proceduresย 
  • Mows the greensย 
  • Cares for the turfย 
  • Assists the Grounds Technician I with heavier equipment maintenanceย ย 
  • Weed eating and hedging dutiesย 
  • Basic maintenance of small machinery as neededย 
  • Operates small machinery to assist with edging, trimming, and blowingย 
  • Operates utility vehicles for hauling material and removing debrisย 
  • Operates equipment safely and is aware of associates and their prospective work areasย 
  • Performs skilled duties related to experience (pruning, plugging, etc)ย 
  • Regular and reliable attendanceย 
  • Involved with tasks related to golf course detail (weed and debris clean up)ย 
  • Mowing turf grassย 
  • Golf course preparation for daily playย 
  • Golf course special projectsย 
  • All other duties as assignedย ย 

Education and Experience

  • Sufficient education and literacy needed to identify and read product labels and communicate with guests about job-related needs.
  • Ability to read write and speak, and communicate in basic English preferred
  • 3 years previous experience in a similar position preferred
  • Previous experience on a golf course requiredย 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Detail oriented and thoroughย 
  • Ability to remain discreet and respect the privacy of guestsย 
  • Ability to perform consistent work to the highest standardsย 
  • Ability to interact with guests in a pleasant friendly way
  • Ability to read, write and speak and communicate in basic English is necessary.
  • Ability to verbally communicate with guests in a professional manner
  • Ability to operate maintenance equipment safely and properlyย 
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Working knowledge of horticulture
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Basic working knowledge of maintenance equipment

Physical Demands

  • Standing and walking for extended periods
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching to perform grounds work
  • Lifting, pushing, and pulling materials, tools, and equipment up to 50lbs
  • Ability to operate equipment, including but not limited to mowers, utility vehicles, blowers, trimmers and other grounds machinery

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work in a variety of outside conditions for a long period of time
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, pollen, grass, and landscaping chemicals and fertilizers
  • Work performed on uneven terrain such as hills, sand, rocks, or rough ground
  • Occasional indoor tasks for equipment storage or maintenance
