Job description

COMPANY OVERVIEW:

POSITION SUMMARY:
We are excited to announce the opening of a Senior Laboratory Specialist position in our Cellular Services Group.
The Senior Specialist plays a key role in supporting cell banking and cell culture operations by performing the initiation, expansion, maintenance, characterization, and cryopreservation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), fibroblasts, lymphoblastoid cell lines (LCLs), peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), and other adherent and suspension cell cultures. This position supports both internally and externally generated cell lines and ensures all laboratory activities are conducted in accordance with established SOPs, quality standards, and aseptic techniques.
Reporting to the Cell Lab Supervisor, the Senior Specialist is responsible for validating incoming samples, processing PBMCs from whole blood, monitoring cell culture health, maintaining accurate laboratory documentation, and supporting high-quality cell banking services. The role also performs routine quality control activities, including alkaline phosphatase (AP) staining, cell counting and viability assessments using the Countess Cell Counter, and cell characterization utilizing the Thermo Fisher Attune Flow Cytometer (FACS). Proficiency in the use of EVOS brightfield and fluorescence microscopy is required to evaluate cell morphology, confluency, and marker expression.
In addition, the Senior Specialist supports product distribution activities by preparing Certificates of Analysis (COAs), shipment manifests, and order documentation for iPSC distribution requests through the Jira ticketing system. The position also contributes to inventory management, reagent and supply tracking, equipment monitoring, daily equipment log maintenance, and overall compliance with laboratory quality and operational requirements. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of laboratory excellence are essential for success in this role.
Candidates must be located in the New Jersey area and able to work onsite at Sampled's Headquarters in Piscataway.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures as required to meet daily lab operation expectations, including whole blood and cell cultures for establishment of transformed lymphocyte cell lines and DNA extractions for genetic studies.
  • Maintain accurate records in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to ensure sample identity data and sample processing data.
  • Perform quality control and assurance checks as samples are processed, resolve sample discrepancy problems in coordination with laboratory staff, directors and cell services staff.
  • Provide professional level laboratory technical support involving the application of scientific research methods and techniques, as directed by the Laboratory management team.
  • Follow quality control policies and procedures on all aspects of laboratory operations.
  • Take personal responsibility to deliver client services to a consistently high standard.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Requires a Bachelors or Masters degree in a Life Sciences field, for example Biology, Molecular Biology or Biochemistry.
  • Minimum 2 years� post qualification experience in all aspects of blood processing and cell culture, including iPSCs, PBMC isolation, viability testing, LCL conversion, passaging and cryopreservation.
  • Must be able to read and understand technical documents, and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Experienced in Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Documentation Practice (GDP), with a commitment to laboratory excellence in all activities. Experienced in working with a quality driven system.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, with the ability to conduct and organize laboratory-based business enterprise efficiently and expeditiously whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Able to manage multiple tasks.
  • Experienced using laboratory information management systems (LIMS), LabVantage preferred.
  • Able to operate scientific instruments, with good manual dexterity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong mathematics and analytical skills.
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills.
  • This position will require occasional, sometimes significant, work on weekend and holidays due to the inherent demands of cell processing and culture.

Salary range $60,000 to $80,000. Salary level will be reflective of qualifications, skills and experience.
