Description
The Food Microbiology Sample Receiving Technician is responsible for the accurate receipt, inspection, logging, preparation, storage, and retention of food and environmental samples submitted for microbiological analysis.
The Receiving Technician supports daily laboratory operations through detailed documentation, proper sample handling, and coordination with laboratory staff. This position reports to the Microbiology Manager.

- Sample Logging & Documentation
- Sample Preparation & Retention
- Inventory & Workspace Maintenance
- Safety & Compliance
Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally with laboratory staff and customers.
Use required PPE and safety procedures.
Works collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
Education
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
- Experience in laboratory receiving, food testing, sample handling, logistics, or a related environment preferred.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfort working with computers, LIMS systems, and standard office software.
- Ability to apply aseptic technique and handle samples accurately.
Working Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work is performed in a temperature-controlled laboratory environment.
- Requires standing, walking, sitting, and manual dexterity.
- Ability to lift and carry sample coolers and laboratory supplies as needed.
- Ability to communicate information verbally and in writing in English.
- Must meet Physical Abilities Level 3 as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor.
- Regular use of laboratory equipment including balances, refrigerators/freezers, and sample preparation tools.
