What is a sample maker?

Sample Makers are skilled professionals who create prototypes or samples of products, typically in industries like fashion, manufacturing, or product design. They interpret design specifications, select appropriate materials, and construct sample items that serve as models for mass production. Their work is crucial for testing product concepts, refining designs, and ensuring quality before full-scale manufacturing begins. Sample Makers often collaborate closely with designers, engineers, and production teams to ensure the final product meets all requirements.

What does a sample maker do?

A sample maker most commonly works for a fashion company and tests a sample pattern on a piece of fabric before it goes into large-scale production. As a sample maker, your responsibilities include creating fabric samples for clothing or garment makers and sending these partial samples or prototypes for different apparel products to your supervisor or other technical directors. Other duties include ensuring that the technical aspect of the production is free of flaws and that garment factory owners clearly understand the directions for large-scale production of the patterns.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sample maker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sample Maker, you need strong technical skills in pattern making, garment construction, and a solid understanding of textiles, usually supported by experience or vocational training in fashion or manufacturing. Familiarity with sewing machines, CAD software, and measuring tools is often required, along with knowledge of industry standards. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication are essential soft skills for accurately interpreting design specifications and collaborating with designers. These skills ensure the creation of high-quality prototypes that meet design intent and production requirements.

What are some common challenges faced by sample makers, and how can they be effectively managed?

Sample Makers often encounter challenges such as working with tight deadlines, adapting to last-minute design changes, and ensuring precise execution of prototypes. Managing these challenges requires strong attention to detail, effective communication with designers and production teams, and flexibility in problem-solving. Being proactive in requesting feedback and maintaining organized documentation can also help streamline the sample-making process and improve collaboration.

Job description

About Polymarket
Polymarket is the world's largest prediction market platform. We enable individuals to express views on real-world events by trading on outcomes across politics, economics, sports, culture, and current affairs. Built as a peer-to-peer marketplace with no centralized "house," Polymarket aggregates diverse opinions into transparent, market-based probabilities that reflect collective expectations about the future.
We're growing fast - both in terms of volume ($21B traded in 2025) and adoption as an alternative news source. Our ambition is to become a ubiquitous beacon of truth in global media and we need your help adding fuel to the fire.
About the Role
This is a technical client-facing role sitting at the intersection of our third-party services relationships and our engineering team. You'll be the primary point of contact for third party partners integrating with Polymarket's APIs and exchange infrastructure - helping them get live quickly, troubleshoot issues, and get the most out of our platform.
You're part account manager, part solutions engineer. You understand technical infrastructure with partners works under the hood, can read and write code when needed, and know how to translate between what a client needs and what our engineering team can build. This role reports our VP of Engineering and works closely with our Head of Partnerships.
What You'll Do
  • Own the technical onboarding experience for third party partners integrating with Polymarket's APIs - REST, WebSocket, and order entry
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for key partners post-onboarding, triaging issues and coordinating with engineering on resolutions
  • Build and maintain integration guides, code samples, and documentation that help clients go live faster
  • Work cross-functionally with product and engineering to translate client feedback into platform improvements and feature requests
  • Identify and flag integration bottlenecks, latency issues, and API pain points before they become client problems
  • Support the institutional sales team on technical due diligence - joining client calls, answering deep API and infrastructure questions, and helping close deals
  • Monitor client API health and usage patterns; proactively reach out when something looks off
What We're Looking For
  • 2-5 years in a technical client-facing role - forward deployed engineer, solutions engineering, technical account management, or similar at an exchange, fintech, or trading technology company
  • Hands-on experience with exchange or trading APIs (REST, WebSocket, FIX); you've helped clients integrate and debug in production environments
  • Comfortable reading and writing code - Python, JavaScript, or similar - to build samples, debug integrations, or automate workflows
  • Strong communicator who can explain technical concepts clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders
  • Self-starter who takes ownership of client issues end to end rather than passing them off
  • Familiar with how electronic trading works - order types, latency, market data feeds, execution quality
  • Collaborative by nature - you work closely with engineering, product, and sales without friction

Bonus Points
  • Experience at a crypto exchange, DeFi protocol, or on-chain trading venue
  • Familiarity with prediction markets or event-driven financial products
  • Experience with market maker or HFT client integrations
  • Background in quantitative finance, trading systems, or financial data infrastructure

Benefits
  • Competitive salary & equity
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Full Health, Vision, & Dental coverage
  • 401k match
  • Hardware setup - new MacBook Pro, big display, & accessories

Pay Transparency
Base salary range: $200,000 to $250,000, plus equity and benefits.
This is a good-faith range for the level we're hiring at. Experience varies widely within a title here, so if your expectations fall outside it, reach out anyway. We're always happy to talk it through.
