Staff / Principal Founding Engineer (Backend-Leaning) – AI Systems Platform

San Francisco (in-office)

$250–280K base + 0.75–1.5% equity (package flexible for the right person)

Description:

We’re partnering with a well-funded, early-stage company building an AI operating system for corporate transformation; integrating deeply with enterprise systems to map how organisations actually run, and using AI to drive smarter decisions and automation.

They’re hiring a Staff / Principal Engineer to join as a founding-level IC/Leader, owning architecture and helping scale a product already live with enterprise, government, and private equity customers.

This is a hands-on, high-ownership role. You’ll:

  • Architect and scale core backend systems (APIs, microservices, orchestration)
  • Design and deploy across a modern AWS stack (ECS, RDS, S3, Terraform)
  • Integrate deeply with systems like Workday, Salesforce, NetSuite, Jira
  • Work directly with customers to map and operationalise complex environments
  • Help define engineering standards, hiring, and technical direction

Experience required:

  • Staff / Principal-level backend or full-stack engineer
  • Strong systems experience (Python, TypeScript, APIs, AWS, cloud infra)
  • Background in 0→1 or early-stage startup environments
  • Experience building scalable, production-grade systems end-to-end
  • Comfortable in customer-facing, high-intensity environments
  • Bonus: AI systems, agent frameworks, or data/ML pipelines, come from top 5 CS undergrad

Amazing Opportunity:

  • True ownership (product, architecture, culture)
  • Product already live with real customers and strong traction
  • Backed by top-tier investors and part of a leading AI program
  • $250–280K base + 0.75–1.5% equity
