What does a Salesforce developer do?

As a Salesforce developer, your duties are to work as part of a development team to code software or application solutions on the Salesforce platform or another piece of Salesforce cloud technology. You typically develop these projects on behalf of other businesses, tailoring development to their needs. These solutions may include new storage architecture, effective strategies to distribute data across a business enterprise network, or innovative methods to create more efficient CRM workflow. Your responsibilities also require you to work closely with QA workers and end users to test solutions and ensure that they meet specifications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Salesforce developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Salesforce Developer, you need a solid understanding of Salesforce platform features, Apex programming, Lightning components, and a relevant degree or Salesforce certifications like Salesforce Platform Developer I/II. Experience with Salesforce development tools such as Visual Studio Code, Salesforce CLI, and version control systems is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and a collaborative mindset help developers excel within cross-functional teams and meet client needs. Job Description:

What It Means to Be a Consultant at Crowe
Consulting is a dynamic business focused on solving problems for our clients and serving our core markets through innovative solutions. As technology and AI continue to reshape the consulting landscape, we are looking for individuals who are curious, adaptable, and eager to learn. At Crowe, consultants are expected to build both technical and transferable skills, think critically, and use technology to solve real business problems. In this role, you will continuously learn, collaborate across teams, and explore how tools, including emerging AI capabilities, can improve efficiency, insights, and client outcomes.

In management at Crowe, you play a pivotal role in leading teams, guiding project execution, and deepening client relationships. You are expected to contribute to account planning, identify opportunities to add value, and ensure high-quality delivery. As your responsibilities expand, you take on broader account ownership, balancing project leadership with growing involvement in client strategy and solution development.

Success in this role comes from a growth mindset, strong communication skills, advanced critical thinking, and the ability to navigate new challenges with confidence

As a Salesforce Consultant and Solutions Architect with Crowe, you will be a hands-on builder and client-facing consultant on our project team, bridging the gap between business needs and practical technical solutions. You will work directly with customers to understand their requirements, design and configure Salesforce solutions, and support successful implementation. You will apply industry best practices while remaining actively involved in solution build, testing, documentation, and delivery. This role is centered on direct project delivery and leadership rather than portfolio leadership or primary people-management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Participate in pre-sales discovery; document business, functional, and technical requirements; and help translate the proposed solution into a clear Scope of Work
  • Partner with Practice Directors, Solution Architects, and Project Managers to estimate implementation effort and identify the skills needed to deliver sold Scopes of Work
  • Work directly with internal and client stakeholders to capture business needs, define requirements, and map current and future-state business processes
  • Design and configure scalable Salesforce solutions that meet business needs, using standard platform capabilities and industry best practices
  • Own assigned implementation workstreams as a hands-on builder, configuring solutions directly while collaborating with Solution Architects, Project Managers, Analysts, and Developers
  • Facilitate discovery sessions, solution workshops, project kickoffs, demonstrations, and client status discussions for assigned workstreams
  • Build and maintain declarative automation, data models, security and sharing configurations, reports, dashboards, and other platform components
  • Support integrations, data migration, troubleshooting, and issue resolution in partnership with technical team members
  • Create and execute test plans, perform functional and system testing, support user acceptance testing, and provide quality assurance for completed work
  • Document solution designs and configurations, deliver end-user training as needed, and take ownership of assigned deliverables through deployment and post-launch support

Basic Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated hands-on competency with Salesforce core products, including experience configuring and building solutions in Sales Cloud and/or Service Cloud
  • Salesforce Administrator, Platform App Builder, or Consultant certification and a minimum of 4+ years of experience working on the Salesforce platform
  • Recent hands-on experience configuring, testing, and deploying production Salesforce solutions
  • Experience working across the end-to-end implementation lifecycle, from discovery and solution design through build, testing, deployment, and support
  • Experience providing business, operational, and technical consulting to client stakeholders and translating requirements into workable platform solutions
  • Detail-oriented, enthusiastic self-starter who can work independently and collaboratively, guide less-experienced team members, and remain actively involved in day-to-day solution delivery
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and communicate effectively with client and prospect stakeholders at different levels of an organization
  • Ability to manage and deliver multiple project workstreams or priorities at the same time while meeting quality and timeline expectations
  • Ability to log time daily for client and project reporting needs
  • Positive, solutions-oriented approach and outlook
  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth, innovative environment
  • This position requires a minimum of 20% travel. Candidates throughout the United States may be considered, including those who are not located near a Crowe office
  • Salesforce certifications or specializations beyond the core platform are required
  • Bachelor's degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with Salesforce Flow, Agentforce, Data360, security and sharing, data modeling, reports and dashboards, integrations, and/or data migration is highly desired
