What is Salesforce Aviation?

Salesforce Aviation refers to the use of Salesforce’s cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) platform within the aviation industry. This typically involves airlines, airports, and aviation service providers leveraging Salesforce tools to enhance customer experiences, manage operations, and streamline sales and marketing processes. By integrating data across departments, Salesforce Aviation helps organizations improve passenger service, boost efficiency, and increase revenue. The platform can be customized for booking management, loyalty programs, customer support, and more, making it highly adaptable to the unique needs of aviation businesses.

What is the difference between Salesforce Aviation vs Salesforce CRM Specialist?

AspectSalesforce AviationSalesforce CRM Specialist
CertificationsSalesforce Certified Advanced Administrator, Industry-specific certificationsSalesforce Certified Administrator, Salesforce Certified Platform App Builder
Work EnvironmentAirlines, private jet companies, aerospace firmsVarious industries using Salesforce CRM, including finance, healthcare, and retail
Employer & Industry UsageSpecific to aviation sectorBroadly used across multiple sectors

Salesforce Aviation professionals focus on implementing and customizing Salesforce solutions tailored to the aviation industry, often requiring industry-specific certifications. In contrast, Salesforce CRM Specialists work across various industries, applying core Salesforce skills to optimize customer relationship management in diverse environments. While both roles require Salesforce certifications, Salesforce Aviation roles emphasize industry-specific knowledge and environment.

How does a Salesforce Aviation professional typically collaborate with other departments within an aviation company?

Salesforce Aviation professionals frequently work closely with sales, operations, and customer service teams to ensure seamless data sharing and process integration. They act as the bridge between technical Salesforce solutions and the unique needs of aviation stakeholders, customizing workflows to improve efficiency in areas like fleet management, maintenance tracking, and customer engagement. Regular cross-functional meetings and project-based collaborations are common, enabling alignment on business goals and ensuring Salesforce tools support both regulatory compliance and operational excellence.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Salesforce Aviation Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Salesforce Aviation Specialist, you need expertise in CRM solutions (especially Salesforce), aviation industry knowledge, and experience with data analysis, typically supported by relevant certifications like Salesforce Administrator or Aviation Management credentials. Familiarity with Salesforce modules, integration tools, and aviation-specific software systems is crucial. Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills help you work effectively with cross-functional teams and clients. These combined skills ensure efficient customer relationship management, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence in the aviation sector.

This is a high‑impact, senior role designed for an experienced product leader who can balance day‑to‑day operational excellence with strategic platform transformation. The Director will play a central role in stabilizing and optimizing the current Salesforce environment while leading a broader Salesforce revamp and modernization program in close partnership with business, technology, and executive stakeholders.

The role reports into senior Product leadership and works closely with IT, Engineering, Data, and business leaders across Sales, Operations, Finance, Client Services, and Marketing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Product Leadership & Strategy

  • Own the product vision and strategy for Salesforce and related enterprise platforms, ensuring alignment with JSSI’s business objectives and long‑term digital transformation roadmap.
  • Define, maintain, and communicate short‑term and long‑term product roadmaps, balancing technical debt reduction, operational needs, and transformational initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary product authority for Salesforce across JSSI, establishing clear priorities, success metrics, and outcomes.

Salesforce Platform Ownership

  • Lead Salesforce as a mission‑critical enterprise platform, supporting revenue, client lifecycle, contract management, case management, and integrations with other core systems.
  • Drive platform scalability, usability, and data integrity while ensuring Salesforce continues to support evolving business processes.
  • Partner closely with Technology and Architecture leaders on platform design, integrations, and future‑state architecture.
  • AvSight experience is a strong plus, particularly where it integrates into or complements Salesforce‑driven workflows.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage and mentor a multi‑disciplinary team including Product Managers, Business Analysts, and Salesforce/System Administrators.
  • Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and operating norms that enable the team to execute effectively and independently.
  • Build a culture of strong product thinking, stakeholder partnership, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure the team can simultaneously support the existing production environment while executing against major roadmap initiatives.

Delivery & Execution

  • Oversee product discovery, requirements definition, prioritization, and delivery across multiple parallel workstreams.
  • Ensure disciplined execution across enhancements, bug fixes, regulatory needs, and strategic initiatives.
  • Partner with delivery teams and vendors to ensure work is delivered on time, on scope, and with high quality.

Stakeholder Management & Communication

  • Act as a senior product interface with executive leadership and cross‑functional stakeholders.
  • Translate business needs into clear product direction and trade‑off decisions.
  • Provide regular, structured communication on roadmap progress, risks, dependencies, and outcomes.

Governance & Operating Model

  • Establish and run product governance for Salesforce and related platforms, including:
    • Operating Committees (working teams)
    • Steering Committees (executive and senior leadership forums)
  • Define and maintain governance artifacts such as product charters, roadmaps, risk registers, and status reporting.
  • Ensure appropriate decision‑making, escalation paths, and accountability are in place.
Desired Credentials

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in Product Management, Product Ownership, or Product Leadership roles.
  • Deep, hands‑on experience with Salesforce as a core enterprise platform (CRM, workflows, integrations, reporting, automation).
  • Proven experience leading and managing Product Managers, Business Analysts, and Systems or Platform Administrators.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, own, and execute complex product roadmaps in enterprise environments.
  • Strong experience operating in matrixed, cross‑functional organizations with senior stakeholders.
  • Experience running product governance structures, including steering committees and operating committees.

Preferred / Plus Experience

  • Experience with AvSight or similar Inventory, analytics, forecasting, or optimization platforms.
  • Experience leading large‑scale platform revamps or transformations while maintaining business‑critical operations.
  • Background working with systems integrations, data platforms, and enterprise architecture.
  • Experience in regulated, complex, or operationally intensive industries (e.g., aviation, finance, asset‑heavy businesses).

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong product judgment and prioritization skills in complex environments
  • Excellent executive‑level communication and stakeholder management
  • Ability to bridge business strategy and technical execution
  • Comfort making trade‑off decisions and leading through ambiguity
  • Proven people leadership and coaching capabilities
  • Highly organized, structured, and process‑oriented without being bureaucratic
