Job description

Join one of the top cancer centers in the nation! The Department of Radiation Oncology at our nationally-recognized cancer institute (City of Hope National Medical Center) seeks a board eligible or board certified radiation oncologist with either a MD/PhD or a MD degree to join the Department as an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in the tenure-equivalent Professor series at our campus in Duarte, CA.  We are seeking research and mission-minded physicians as every discovery we make and every new treatment we create, gives people the chance to live longer, better, and more fully.

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Radiation Oncology whose focus is delivering world-class, state-of-the-art radiation therapy and clinical care to our patients with cancer and benign diseases. City of Hope's Department of Radiation Oncology has long been at the forefront of providing the best evidence-based clinical care, forging technological advances and translating discoveries from the bench into clinical practice. We take pride in delivering care marked by quality, integrity, compassion, a sense of urgency and teamwork. The Department of Radiation Oncology is embedded within a deep and scientifically-rich cancer center that has national recognition in many research programs, including DNA repair, cancer genetics, cancer immunology, genomics, theranostics, and radionuclides.  Through strong early phase clinical trials programs, the potential for scientific translation abounds.

City of Hope Department of Radiation Oncology has achieved ASTRO APEx (Accreditation Program for Excellence) status at all our centers in Southern California, recognizing our commitment to patient safety and high-quality radiation therapy.

The ideal candidate is a radiation oncologist with a strong research background, and who is well-published in impactful scientific journals. Current grant funding or history of successfully having achieved funding is highly desirable. The successful applicant is expected to develop an academic laboratory-based program relevant to the field of radiation therapy or oncology (e.g. DNA repair, radiation biology, chemical biology, cancer biology, immunology, bioinformatics, etc.). The position will have up to 80% dedicated research time, with a generous academic start up package and support. At our main campus in Duarte, California, The Elsie & Robert Pierson Radiation Oncology Center offers an array of advanced technologies, including Ethos adaptive radiotherapy, RefleXion SCINTIX (biology-guided radiation therapy), TomoTherapy and Varian TrueBeam radiotherapy, along with brachytherapy, total body irradiation, total marrow/lymphoid irradiation, total skin electron radiotherapy, radiopharmaceuticals, radioimmunotherapy, innovative clinical trials, and additional clinical services.  In addition, our large Radiation Oncology Network encompasses 4 counties in the greater Los Angeles region with centers providing a high quality City of Hope-level clinical care with a closer to home experience. Finally, our reach has become national, with new clinical programs in the greater Chicago, Phoenix, and Atlanta areas.

Position Benefits:
  • Excellent benefits package, including a generous retirement contribution plan

  • Relocation assistance may be available

  • Base Salary Range: $330k-$600k (Assistant Professor to Professor levels). The range listed is exclusively for base compensation for full-time employment and does not include incentive compensation or benefits.  Actual compensation will be adjusted for experience, training, hospital/community need and other factors.
