Job description

A historic New York City newspaper is hiring a Chief Design Officer to own how the entire brand looks on newsprint, on screen, and in the room. You will oversee lay out the paper yourself in InDesign, and you will also be the final voice on whether a website, an ad, an event, a piece of merchandise, or a video looks like this brand. If you only want to direct, or only want to produce, this is not the job.

What you will do

  • Lead all visual design across print and digital products
  • Lay out weekly newspaper editions using professional InDesign workflows
  • Create marketing materials, email designs, advertising, and branded assets
  • Maintain consistent brand standards across every customer-facing touchpoint
  • Review website and product designs for brand consistency
  • Oversee event visuals, merchandise, billboards, video, and physical branding
  • Provide final visual quality control across all creative output

What we are looking for

  • Professional experience leading brand design across multiple media formats
  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe InDesign and production design workflows
  • A strong portfolio of polished, high-quality brand and editorial design
  • Excellent judgment for visual consistency, quality, and brand integrity
  • Experience designing print, digital, advertising, email, and marketing materials
  • The ability to critique external creative work and enforce standards
  • Comfort balancing hands-on design with organization-wide creative oversight

Compensation: Starting at $80k
