Rate of pay: $14.50 /hr - $15.00/hr
Shift: Shift varies. Looking for someone who is interested and knowledgeable when it comes to health and wellness.
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Wellness Director/Coordinator and consistent with the mission of the YMCA of the Suncoast, the Wellness Trainee will work towards meeting all requirements of the Wellness Floor Coach position within 60 days from hire date. During that time, if scheduled to work in the wellness center they will meet and greet members, and assist members by referring them to the appropriate staff members for specific training needs. Educate and enforce operational guidelines and regulations with all members. Maintain all weight training equipment and keep facilities organized and clean. Provide knowledge and concern for the members' well being at all times.
EDUCATION, TRAINNG AND EXPERIENCE:

Must be at least 18 years old. High School graduate or equivalent required. Degree in Wellness, psychology or communications preferred. Must be knowledgeable in selectorized equipment, free weight training principles, and YMCA fitness testing components. This person should have a strong personal commitment to overall wellness; have a positive attitude and ability to work independently. Required upon hire, must have completed Intro to Y's Cause & Culture, Ys Way to Service & Engagement, and I Hear You: Service with CARE trainings. Also upon hire, must be working towards meeting the criteria of the Wellness Coach Position within 60 days of hire date. This includes Wellness Center Member Engagement Worksheet, Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y, Foundations of Listen First with the Listen First Skills Assessment, Principles of Member Health & Wellness, Wellness Center at the Y, Cause Driven Tour Workshop, Get SMART, YMCA Foundations of Strength & Conditioning Certification with Wellness Center Skills Assessment OR a National Personal Trainer Certification, and a current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
SPECIAL SKILLS or EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
Must be able to articulate and communicate effectively while assisting members in basic strength training and cardiovascular exercise. Must be a good communicator and listener. Must understand the basic common knowledge concepts of member service.
PHYSICAL and/or MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have the ability and patience to assist members while using effective communication and human relations skills to handle situations with people of all socioeconomic levels. Must have the ability to safely serve as a spotter. Must be able to lift an equivalent of 50 pounds.
WELLNESS TRAINEE JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. *Within 60 days of hire date, complete all requirements of the Wellness Coach Position
2. *Monitor wellness areas, including locker room, and meet and greet members.
3. Respond to member questions and seek out additional information when needed.
4. Engage in positive public relations with members.
A. Maintains professionalism at all times.
B. Wears approved uniform while on duty, including nametag.
5. Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct. Keep supplies organized, maintain and clean facility and care for equipment.
6. Maintains cleanliness of all selectorized and free weight equipment.
A. Responsible for the care, returning, and storage of all equipment.
B. Fills all bottles and changes towels in fitness center when needed.
C. Records all maintenance duties in proper logbook.
7. *Exercise sound judgement in relationship to member safety and injuries.
8. *Follows all emergency procedures and is able to administer CPR and First Aid.
9. Takes responsibility for certain housekeeping duties as directed and required.
10. Attend all staff meetings, in-house trainings, demonstrations and special promotions as designated by supervisor.
11. Control occupancy and traffic flow on all equipment.
12. Must be knowledgeable about and able to enforce wellness floor policies and practices.
13. Personal workouts are encouraged but must be scheduled during off duty hours.
14. Notify your supervisor two days or more in advance if you are going to be absent. It is your responsibility to find another fitness center floor staff person to cover your shift and confirm this with your supervisor.
